houssaon: I did at one point have long curtains on all the windows, but it felt cramped to me for some reason. I will try to change the three mirrors above the bed and put something else in its place to see how that looks.

I love the Browndale Avenue color, BM midnight blue. and could use that as an accent color somewhere. I just worry the headboard will disappear too much if I place behind the bed wall.

Yes I am a color expert and have been for many years. You are starting with some great elements. I love the headboard and valances that you made. They show a confidence in design with bold color and patterning. What I don't want to happen is that they are lost in a dark wall color. I feel like at this point you need to define your direction before moving forward. For example of you were going with a navy white and softer cool grey wall color ( different than what you have now) it would give you a very contemporary look. If you go for a lighter yellow it would be a more friendly upbeat style. What I think would look great is if you go with a richer gold wall color. It will give you a beautiful warm statement and you can balance it out with Navy and White motif. I know you want to work on wall design element, and molding and painting the end tables, but I think defining the look of the room comes first. You can look at the Color911 app which has many color themes in it and see if there is a theme with a darker blue that inspires you. It will give you other colors that you can also use in the room. Once you choose your color direction, you have clarified the identity of the room. Answering all of the other questions becomes much easier once you have decided where you are going with it color wise..

I would define the seating area and the third window by changing the color/mood of that area giving it weight and attention. If it is to be used as a reading area, I would warm it up. I would then carry that color out into the bed area in fabric and possibly repainted bed tables and pillows. End of bed bench accented with dominate color chosen for bedroom with more bedpillows carrying through the theme. Keeping the accents changable allows for seasonal change at small expense while keeping the overall theme intact.

@ Amy Wax: Thanks for your input. I am aiming for a Hollywood glam feel with a modern twist. I envision mirrored tables with mixed metallic elements, luxurious fabrics and graphic prints.

When you recommended a richer gold color, do you have any examples of colors that you mean? I do agree with you that the darker navy color should be used only as accents in the room. I will check out your app as well and see if I can find any colors.

What does anyone think about some muted/lightened jewel tone colors in either amethyst or green / chartreuse?

How about the Linden Green color swatch for walls? I like the idea of being able to bring in "peacock" colors.

Consider moving the bed to the solid wall, putting the fireplace feature where the bed is now, and draping off the recess with its shelves as a dressing room where you could do your wallpaper effect. Your mirrored table could be used there too. Start by searching here for Hollywood Regency chandeliers to get your direction going.

I have a couple of ideas for you that will change the look of a standard room layout:) I've attached your picks with the changes that i think would look great...considering there are three windows it makes your bed look a little odd where it is placed, I would move it to the right side wall and then place the dresser in between the windows leaving that wonderful space for a sitting area! As for the colour on your wall it looks like you are going for a calm place so i would stay in the grey tones to bring out the blue in your curtains...and make another panel for that third window...paint colour by Benjamine Moore - shoreline 1471 . Hope some of these ideas bring inspiration to your room:) Can't wait to see your final result.

Great comments so far. Unfortunately because the bedroom double doors open at a diagonal into the room, it makes it uncomfortable to place the bed on the right side large wall. I did try this before and the door would hit the nightstand when opened. That's another reason why its been so hard to decorate around the layout of this room. If only the third window was on the sitting room blank wall instead!

Add same valance to end window. then cover whole wall floor to ceiling in white woven fabric panels even behind bed. Not over windows. So all walls will be covered. Go navy blue or color of valance for bedding mixed with white. Fold back top. Use white sheets. Add a few pillows different size. Tall lamp in silver base. And white drum style shade.

Paint walls a Revere pewter by Benjamin Moore. To blend with the navy. Use white trim.

A drum style chandler drop dn 3 ft. In black and silver. Z Galleries has a nice one.

I would not paint night stand but get another one like the dark chest type you have now, add lamps.

Where trunks on floor are. Remove and add a tall 6 ft floor mirror in dark frame just lean on that wall. On long wall opposite bed. Wallpaper in a tree mural. Easy and adds depth and texture to room. Another idea for that wall Is. Barn wood planks. Very different. Lamp on dresser too high go shorter bigger base in white with navy shade. Or opposite.

Recover bench seat in fabric from valance.

Don't worry about bedside tables - use wall mounted swing arm lamps and floating shelves to hold a few things - can even have a drawer in them. Lots of cool ways to handle that issue.

Love travisinteriors suggestion about treating whole wall with three windows uniformly, add the cornice to third window, definitely floor to ceiling drape panels making it coheisive. Upholster bench in cornice fabric or sure. Ditch pictures above bed. Add a rug 3/4 way underneath the bed with a coordinating navy pattern. Lamps don't make enough of a statement, probably need to be larger and lighter a bit of sparkle with glass. Keep working it.

Some progress made. Still want to add that floor length mirror as travisinteriors had recommended and change out wood night stand. Also need to selll dresser to make seating area with chairs and trunks.

Keep windows covering the same on all windows. Add same to 3 rd window. Pic over bed to small remove leave bare, or a long narrow piece, hang long ways. Firepl in seating area would add warmth . Wall color. Get some sample put on wall. The computer do not show true colors. So hard to advise. Each color will look different in your lighting. I would stay in the blue/grays. Try Revere Pewter. By Benjamin Moore, any of their colors would work. Try out first.

Painted room walls soft gray-blue as well as ceiling. Added wood detailing behind bed and re-upholstered the bench in matching fabric.
Dont look at the stuff on end tables as that was just placed on their while I was painting!

Still working on changing out night stands and sitting area.

I also am going to install hanging crystal pendant lights over nightstands...

Have you thought about making one long valance for the 2 windows on the left side and putting fabric between them on the wall. Love the fabric colors in the valance. The bench looks nice and the wall color behind the bed too. Great job!

Wow! What a turn around in direction you've done!

Hopefully in a good way! I decided to sell of all the stuff I no longer liked and find pieces that I liked more. I'm still debating about whether to do some curtains all the way across the back wall behind the bed.

Since curtains would really need to cover all three windows, I wouldn't do the entire wall of them. I thought the valances you made looked good, but needed to be on all the windows. Maybe you should make some new ones. They could be wider than the windows to allow for drapery panels or sheers.

Where did you get the metallic panels from in your sitting area? I love them!

The metallic/mirrored long panels are from pier one.
