I really like it. Nice tile design. Is that travertine tile? Lighting adds a lot of warmth

Thank you Judi . Yes it's travertine tile .

I agree with the idea of putting something on the back of cabinets and removing fruit. Also use just dishes or glassware in cabinets, I don't think the wood bowls add much. Displaying some more decorative pieces, along with existing dishes, like the bowls pictured that have some of the yellow and blue would look better. Think serving pieces, bowls, pitchers, or salt/pepper shakers, cream/sugar or a cake plate. [houzz=

Eventually swap out wood shelves for 3/8" or 1/2" thick glass shelves to transfer and reflect more light. Will add spectral quality and draw eye even more. Try new LED battery operated "puck" light at inside top of cabinets?

is the wall colour yellow- > if so Id go for a tone in your travertine
  • 12 years ago
No the wall it's not yellow ...sorry bad lighting . Our walls our light light tan and travertine tone is light champagne

I would be very careful adding another pattern. Your bench is very busy and also your splash back. I would either have plain glass so you can see a display or just place another cabinet door on them but no more pattern please...... Also be very careful with undertones. Just my opinion.

Become a trivet collector! They would stand up in the back adding interest.I always like to incorporate things that have some meaning ie.a trivet from your last family vacation:)

Keep it simple and with clean lines...like the idea of colourful bowls, display in odd numbers.

I would use these like any other cabinet , stack dishes that are the same, glassware etc I have never thought of glass door cabinets as finicky display spaces just for the sake of display. Houssaon sent some pics of what I mean, the bottom right one is perfect. I would put in glass shelves and add some lighting just for a finished look. Otherwise nice kitchen.

I like what you are doing. You do not need to "wallpaper" the back of the shelves as suggested although it is nice looking. You do not need to change your shelves to glass. That would be more appropriate for a lighted cabinet displaying fine decorative items. Use the glass in your kitchen as an opportunity to clean out cabinets and re-arrange. You can use large decorative bowls, stem ware etc. Even a nice basket would fill the spaces well. You can also stack the bowls with a plate in between to create more height. If you do not want clear glass you can add a frosted paper to the inside to dilute the view a little. That is what I did in my makeover recently. I did not want to see too much so I used frosted glass. Just remember it is a kitchen (cabinet) and you do want it to be functional as well as pretty.
