What do you mean by "Our fireplace is modern and soars to 18 feet in height"?

I think will looks great over the fire place as a concept design. but you will have a problem with power and cable. if you could relocate those over fitreplace is a great location. if not i will look for very long and short piece and i will locate next to the wall of FP trying to looks like is built in. i am sure you can find a piece like that.

Fireplace is 42 inches wide (rectangle) and the surround soars upward to 18 feet to the ceiling.

The idea on the picture is about what i think. however that will be a mirror layout to the existing conditions. i don't know a floor plan room but base on the picture this kind of set up will looks great in a lond wall as the picture from mark but the existing conditions are different because at the right F.P is to small the wall bet. the Fp and window and other side is the dinning rooom. I think all need to be layout different but again, the idea is great from mark. i need a floor plan layout to give better recomendation., cheers

If you want to stay minimal and keep the sectional there, a lift cabinet at right angle to the fireplace.

Otherwise, put it to the right of the fireplace and turn the sectional 90 degrees.

Sofa can,t be flipped as it would cut off the walkway from the front door. We had the sofa custom made to get the most number of seats. Thanks

Put TV in a different room.

Usually not a fan of TV over FP but your case is different since FP is so low and with small opening. Hang TV over FP ASAP.

The floor mirror will be better in the bedroom. It doesn't work with the sectional or FP.

Hi dorisjensen, definitely no TV above the fireplace, unless you have absolutely nowhere else to put the TV. Reba120's idea is good, to put the TV in another room.

I see a few problems here. If you put the tv on the right, then only two people can comfortably see the tv and you said you can't flip the couch because it is custom. If you put the tv on the left , then it encroaches on the dining room space. I would take Mark's design and flip it with the tv on the left with long floating shelves and a nice base in the dining room and use a a base and more floating shelves on the l right to unify the spaces.

Sorry Ed this is the only place we have for the tv. We are going to use Mark,s idea with the off the floor built ins and floating shelves. We will need to put the tv on the dining room side. Thanks to everyone for the ideas your all wonderful.

Above the fireplace DEFINITELY! would keep the symmetry of the room, not be an awkward viewing angle and look great! So often as a technology design professional I see people afraid to mount displays above their fireplace. I have attached a picture from one of our projects showing a modern fireplace such as yours with a display above it for reference..

Tekkease thank you for your suggestion. The bottom of our fp is 30 inches and the top is 50 inches from the floor. The manufacturer requires combustible material to be at least 14 inches above the fireplace. We would like to put a mantle 14 inches above the fp to protect the tv from the heat. This will put the bottom of our tv at 69 inches above the floor. Do you think the tv will be too high? Our seating area of our living room is 6 to 14 feet from the tv. Our tv is now a 40 inch led.

The overall mounting height of the LED will be suffice for pleasant viewing. It may be a little tall for whomever is sitting at the 6' viewing angle, however not too bad. Perfect height for people at 9-14'. I would recommend a tilting mount so that you can tilt the LED down to get a better viewing angle from the display. I am not sure the overall width of the fireplace "pop out" but would recommend in the future going to a larger LED...anywhere from 55-65" so that you have a larger viewing platform and will allow for a better experience at all angles. If you have any more questions, want any recommendations on products or just some ideas feel free to use my expertise.
