Personally, I would go to a cabinet company. They are professionals. They will offer many different grades of cabinetry. Their expertise will be invaluable when planning a kitchen renovation.

You will not be tied to a handful of factory finishes if do custom.

But is it worth the compromise if you are saving 20k? Seems so overpriced!?

We have Kraftmaid cabinets from Lowes and love them. Our salesperson was great - very experienced and worked in the field several years before coming to Lowes. She was a huge help to us. The weekend we finally decided to place the order, there was an extra discount and we got our cabinets for a great price!

The problem with purchasing at big box stores, is that they purchase their products in such large quantities that they demand their costs to be lowered, and lowered until the cabinet quality has to be sacrificed to meet their demands. Which is why they have such great prices. It is also why most cabinet brands that go through big box stores have different product line names for those cabinets and have a separate product line name for their cabinets that are sold else where and those are higher in quality. Sometimes they even change their brand name to distance them self from being related to the quality of the big box store products.

This is why Dura Supreme does NOT distribute our products though big box retailers. We would rather loose a sale than sacrifice the quality of our products.

In general, you are better off purchasing from a smaller kitchen design shop then you are through big box stores if you are concerned about quality and longevity of your cabinetry. I would only purchase from a big box store if you are looking to cut corners to cut the price.
