My client wants to go this direction for our firepit. I am going to borrow from your great design if you don't mind. Do you mind answering a question or two? Did you make a double interior wall to keep the outside wall from getting too hot?. Is your exterior powder coated, or just painted with high temp paint? We are building a unique rain curtain water feature. I will share that with you as we get to completion. thank you.

No problem at all. Kind of ironic that you're in Texas because this house was done for a client from Houston. The firebox itself is a box of 1/4"steel plate lined with firebrick and it sits on a grid of 4 steel plate risers. The exterior shell is 1/4"steel plate that is separated from the actual firebox by 6"-8" of airspace or so due to the taper of the sides. There is a 1/2" steel plate on top that spans between the interior and exterior boxes with expanded steel mesh tack welded on it to support and secure the granite top. The plate also provides a nice reveal detail between the granite and base. The exterior shell is painted with regular paint for metal, nothing special for the heat and it never gets very hot. The granite top gets hotter than the metal does, but this is in Phoenix so we are used to exterior elements getting quite hot just from direct sunlight. The space at the bottom of the base is open at the top between the outer wall and the "toe kick" piece which allows air circulation all around the firebox and adds a nice reveal detail. I have attached a construction photo that shows a little more detail. Glad you like the design. It has been very popular and the slanted base makes it easier to pull a chair up or when using the granite as a seat. Its a great cocktail table as well because there is amazing view in all directions. Very versatile and usable. People often ask me why anyone in Arizona would want a fireplace, but the finish floor elevation of this house is 3000 feet so it makes the patio much more useful in the evenings when it gets quite cool.

Is the granite ons single slab on the firepit or sections. How did you account for the heat to not crack the granite top. Thanks so much
