We have tons in our area most are nicely done then we have a farm called shady brook. That does a whole drive through display. When I am out tom I will try to take a picture and post it. http://shadybrookfarm.com/ then go to christmas lights. It's huge like the osbourne festival at disney just on a smaller scale. Only a few you cringe at in the area about 15 to 20 mintues away they have gone a little blow mold crazy on their front lawn.

I'll try to get a shot of my favorite one this evening. I've always wanted to send these people a thank-you letter. Every year, I look forward to their efforts and go out of my way just to check it out. It's a farm on the north edge of town that sits alone, which probably adds to the impact of their display. While it's it's not professionally done, it is tasteful, playful and obviously a labor of love--my favorite qualities for home holiday lights.

My other favorite one is downtown, along a block where the all the businesses there decided to go "dark blue LED" on the leafless trees. That rocks in a totally different way. It IS professional, and it looks very edgy and modern.

Awww... A thank you note would be such a nice gesture. I mean, I'm sure they know people enjoy it, but I bet they would love that.

Most of the good displays in my neighborhood pay professionals to do their displays, I just can't justify paying thousands for something that stays up only 2 months of the year; plus I think it's fun doing it ourselves! While there are tons of other displays around that I love, I don't have pictures of any but my own.

The entrance of my neighborhood is decked out in lights and they have some of the falling snow lights in the trees. Everyone seems to love them.

There's a house in Northbridge, MA about a ten minute drive away that's been on HGTV for it's Christmas craziness. The lawn and house are covered with lights and characters and everything is synchronized to music that you play in your car by tuning in to their frequency on your radio...it's nuts! They even have projections of Santa moving from one window to another. We hop in the car and go gawk with everyone else every few years. Not my style, but it sure is theirs, and it's enjoyed by all!

A street near us

There is a man that starts decorating his yard months before December. He has tons of Christmas penguins under an igloo. It's really creative - my kids and I love it!

here is one in the county in PA I live, about 30 mins from my neighborhood.

here is even a better one I have yet to visit only 20 mins from me. It's a local farm that brings in thousands of people outside the county just to visit the lights show.

I live right by the shady brook one. Yes, the ones in leviitown pa. people will line up for hours and police need to help with traffic. That is where one of the blow mold house has gone blow mold crazy. If I let my husband he would have our front lawn look like a landing strip and inflatable christmas crazy. He jokes he wants to do a grizwald christmas.

Driving home from work the other morning and listening to the radio, house located at 360 Lincoln st, Orange CT USA has a spectacular display. Made a mental note to drive there over the weekend to see it. We'll take some pics and unload them for ya's

For me, the most amazing lights are at Longwood Gardens. Every year they have the entire garden full of lights and indoors, they always have several rooms decorated.

Sorry to be a party-pooper (again!) and I bet you've heard this speech before, but I never got the whole "lets waste resources, raise our electricity bill and together with the useless Christmas presents nonsense, get into debt and be depressed and suicidal in January, but hey! my lights were better than the neighbours'" thing.

I'm not a tree-huger (and definitely don't hurt financially) but I resent how people who do got so tricked by the commercial side of the 'holly season', they now justify over-spending and stressing themselves out with rhetoric like: it's for the children! (yes, the little one really needs that two hundred and fifth toy you bought her/ him) or 'it's only once a year' forgetting that they use the same phrase for birthdays, Valentine's day, Easter, summer holiday, Thanksgiving, etc.

And don't get me started on the religious side of this, if that Jesus guy was around, I bet he wouldn't give out tickets for heaven based on how shiny your roof is and the total luminous intensity emitted by your trees!

To summarise, I personally believe in 'live and let live' (I do!!) HOWEVER show some restraint, people! With lights specifically, if it's something almost discreet and decent and stays on couple of hours a day (not the whole bloody night!) then OK, it just helps the gloom of December nights. When it gets to "I think those guys on Jupiter can't see our display in the corner, bring out more lights!" point, I think it's time to re-think things. (rant over, thank you!)

Luciana : Parts of oration very funny! Thanks. We did a by pass the other day and seen a shivering snowman on someone's lawn. My gal liked it very much. Have to admit, i liked it also.

This is our first Christmas living in a "Christmas Tree Lane". It's nice walking around and seeing all the decorations, meeting more neighbors, and greeting the visitors who stop and walk the neighborhood.

Ironically, the name "Luciana" means "light or illumination." :) I do think most people do lights on their houses for the reason you stated. "...it just helps the gloom of December nights." The point is to spread good cheer, not to anger people. Some of the huge light displays are to raise money for charity also. Not a bad thing at all.

The suicide rate is highest in december not january. Yes, the point of all the lights is to spread cheer, love. just like that of jesus. My husband and his coworkers Although they love their job. It's not easy telling someone realatives they have passed. Better days are when they save the two year old choking. The lights around here are for charity. Happiness spreads and makes people do more charity in return. I smile at people with grumpy faces just to make them smile. It is not o.k. with jesus or just plain human kind to offend anyone. Merry christmas! Yes, jesus is the reason for the season and the lights are a symbol to represent how god lit the sky for the wisemen to seek him. Yes, wise men still seek him. Donations are taken at tons of these displays for charity. Gifts are given to remember the gift god gave us and th wisemen gave jesus. People travel from washington's crossing, new hope, doylestown, buckingham, yardely, Newtown, solebury to see the lights at shady brook. They serve hot chocolate etc. you tune your radio and you spend time with your kids and see the holiday lights that they can see from jupiter. There is a ton of wealth where I live and a ton of charity also. The point is christmas is about jesus and not out doing the jones.

I have two in my neighborhood, one I absolutely love and another is a bit overdone. The first has a huge tree in their front yard that the decorate like a giant #Christmas tree. With huge decorative bells and magnificent ribbon. It's a very cool house to visit. The second is hilarious! I don't think there is an ounce of open space in their yard. Literally, their home has the appearance of 24hour daylight! It's cute though in an endearing kind of way. Rredpenn & 5blues - as my name and grammar mistakes attest, my first language is not English; what rredpenn didn't know to mention when explaining the etymology of my name was that Lucifer also means "light" or "light-bearer" so you can see how the two names can easily associate. In fact, it was enough for my Latin teacher to called me Lucifer once, and I was left with that nickname for the rest of my school years (Uni too!); even my mother thought it appropriate at times!!

Joking aside, 5blues I never intended to offend anyone and regret that I made you feel that way. I should have been more careful in the way I talk about such an important (to many) religious figure. Again, apologies for making you feel that way.
I am also sorry to hear that you husband has a difficult job, 5blues. I have worked in charities for 17 years - as a professional - and had my share of dealing with neglect, abuse of all kinds, death and horror stories (although not my fault and physically impossible, I still feel responsible for failing to prevent the rape of a child). Right, sorry - I don't think this adds to the holidays' cheer...

jesus is our savior and my husband 's job is something he loves and the holiday lights they all love. He has said many times god has guided his hands. He has felt god with him in the back and so have other medics. Good times are important when you see bad things as I am sure you understand dealing with what you do also. No one can help everyone but the lights are meant for cheer and happy times. No matter if you can see them from jupiter or bethlehem. We all must remember it's for the greater good. Even if some are over the top they are meant in good spirit. Pardon my mistakes my eyes are bad from a medical condition that this week has been really bad for eye sight. I have had to go back many times and fix what I am missing and rearranged. Luciana. I am sorry for people saying hurtful things as a child that would hurt anyones feelings.

Hines Park in Wayne County, Michigan has a Christmas Light Show that runs Thanksgiving - January. $5 donation. The cities of Plymouth and Northville, MI do a great job with decorating with lights and fresh pine. The Henry Ford and Greenfield Village in Dearborn have a wonderful Holiday Nights historic evening with Mummers, Santa live from a Victorian rooftop, Taste of History etc. Don't miss The Mitten in Winter. ;-)
