I have dogs, and did have kids ... I like the white denim or other sturdy white fabric because you can bleach it. Easy!!!

Denisenj13 Can you share which fabric you went with & are you happy with your sofa purchase? I'm considering same PB sofa & chair set today with Labor Day sale, and also unsure which fabric will hold up to dogs while still feeling cozy. Has anyone here purchased the Performance Tweed or Performance velvet materials that can provide feedback?

lljmustang....I am happy to say I finally made a decision and placed my order yesterday!!! Definitely made out well with the 25% off sale! Also, if you open a PB card you could get back another 10% in PB store credit or defer payments with no interest for 12 months, so you could further save on top of the sale. As for my purchase, I went with the Performance Sunbrella Sahara Weave in oatmeal. I put this fabric on a few pieces from the PB comfort collection. I knew exactly what I wanted in terms of the sofa, armchair etc...it was the damn fabric that had me so indecisive for weeks! I was sooo confused because I really wanted the washed linen in the slipcover but it wasn't stain resistant. I know I could wash it but I wanted to be able to spot clean too. I just couldn't take the chance with three small children, a dog...people in general. I would say stay away from the Performance Tweed. I initially wanted that fabric after I realized the washed linen was out. But, from all the reviews I read and talking to the sales people at the store, after a few months it starts to pull really bad. Supposedly they are rectifying that problem, but I didn't want to take the chance. That left me with the Sunbrella or everdaysuede. I will say this was hard for me because the reviews on the everdaysuede were great. The Sunbrella is a new product being carried by pottery barn, although other manufacturers have been using it for indoor furniture for quite some time. I took a leap of faith on the Sunbrella, but am trusting in this company's reputation to make really beautiful and durable fabrics. Why I chose the Sunbrella...because it didn't look like or feel like microfiber, which is what I have on my current couch. The everyday suede was too much like the microfiber I have currently and I'm tired of it. I really set out to get a fabric that was casual, light in color but durable like steel. I was also able to sit on the Sunbrella fabric because they had a sofa in my local pottery barn covered in the fabric and it felt much more comfortable than I expected. It's very different than the Sunbrella outdoor fabrics and looked beautiful. Also...don't laugh but I got 2 swatches of every single fabric I was interested in and poured water on it to see if what would happen....then to really amp it up...I poured wine. Yup red wine! On the Sunbrella fabric it just beaded up! Then cleaned as per the instructions of the fabric! It came right out of the Sunbrella! I will say it came out of the everydaysuede as well, but with a little more elbow grease. By the way, I think the everyday velvet and suede are very similar. I hope this helps your decision as in they are really durable fabrics, just two different looks! I would just steer clear of the Performance Tweed. Happy Shopping today!!!

Denise, I ordered the Emory Grand sofa & chair set in Deso Dove color which was perfect for our needs. The Baldwin is their most popular & looks similar to PB Comfort set. Was hugely impressed by difference & feel of Arhaus quality - plus their current sales price was similar to what PB was offering. The biggest plus was having a non-hurried sales person that spent 2-hours discussing & showing us various pieces, which left me feeling very confident in my purchase.

I agree with Eklektik Interiors, The new indoor outdoor fabrics have come along way, in terms of looks, colors and feel. The maintenance is easy, but some are washable and some are dry clean only, So check that out before purchasing.

Katie Layfield...the following are the two color swatches...in the top two photos the oatmeal is in the left and ivory on the right. I took the pics in two different places do you can see them in different light. The second photo is in my sunroom which really made them look more similar. I saw the Baldwin at Arhaus about 5 years ago and fell in LOVE with it., but at the time was too pricey, and I wasn't sure what I wanted... sofa or sectional. I'm not familiar with the Emory Grand, but I think I'll take a look at it hopefully this week. It sounds... GRAND! Our 'season' starts soon, and I want to get this done before the shops get busy! I also love the Rachel Ashwel by Miles Talbot.. another VERY comfortable piece, and I think that she would make sure the quality was perfect if she put her name on it. Perhaps one of the designers could comment on the Miles Talbot line. Thank you.

Denise Smith... I, too, have been eyeballing the Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic line. Seems to be of better quality than all the rest by the looks of it. Don't know if you've been to the RA Shabby Chic website, but here's a link to dealers around the US where you can WALK-IN. Lots in FL, I'm in OR and have only one option. Absolutely love our Rowe Nantucket slip covered sofas. Chose a khaki fabric which is almost like duck canvas. Upgraded the cushions with down. Life time warranty on frame & springs. Full slip cover with velcro snuggers under the arm roll. Wayfair offers this sofa for $1550 without upgrades. Price increases with fabric quality. Ordered locally, deliverymen removed and hauled away the old furniture. With white glove service and state taxes, price was still couple hundred lower than Wayfair.

Denise, where are the cleaning instructions for the sunbrella fabric from PB? I'd love to know just in case somewhere spills red wine on it, wouldn't surprise me :)

I am on my 2nd set of 2 sofas, which I gave the 1st set to a friend and it still looked good. Used the same pre-washed cotton fabric, 1st one in off white and 2nd one in white. I put it in the washing machine and then in the dryer. Take it out just before it's totally dry and hang it over d/r chairs till the next day then re-apply it to the sofa frames. It's like washing your cotton sheets and you know how long they last. Fresh and clean. I will never go back to a fully upholstered sofa again.

2013monroe, are your sofas Pottery Barn? Is it difficult to remove/reinstall the slipcovers and more importantly do they lay smooth or get wrinkly in the cotton fabric? Thanks for the washing instructions and feedback!!

My choice is Four Seasons furniture. I also chose to up grade the cushions. The pre-washed cotton fabrics are great. I had on my 1st one and 2nd one the fabric Tangiers bleach. It has a paisley tone on tone solid print which doesn't show wrinkles when you sit on it. Very easy to remove because it comes off in sections, including the slipcover on the frame. I also have a dog and she goes on it all the time. My first sofa was off white and my 2nd one is white. I find it very easy to keep clean and sometimes I use a little Clorox. Just like the sheets on your bed, always fresh and clean. I hope this can help you.

Waterbabie, etc, Thank you for your suggestion about the Rachel Ashwell sectionals. We don't have a RA store here, but one that carries a lot of her items. After my HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE with Four Seasons, it took me about a year of looking at EVERYTHING. I never checked the quality of the Four Seasons at the store, and I wish I had. None of the pieces of wood on the frame were the same lengths, which they were supposed to be. It wasn't hard to measure them, because, with the slipcover pieces, the frame is exposed... BOTH the frame and springs are exposed... I think I posted pictures. I loved the Rowe - I had one years ago and it was SO comfortable and well made. It was before slipcovers... I wish I had never gotten rid of it. I was fortunate enough to find a Pottery Barn (made by Mitchel and Gold) on CraigsList, and had a slipcover made in white matlasse (found the seamstress on Etsy) and it is more perfect than I could have imagined!!! She plumped up the cushions (I have fibromyalgia, so sometimes hurt a lot after a stressful day). And I have dogs and cats, so I wanted something I could bleach. I am SLOWLY redoing the room... very slowly.... but here is a quick photo - with all the stuff pushed out of the way. I love it. And the seamstress was fantastic. But a sofa with good bones - check the frame. I would think a good frame would last a few lifetimes.

Anyone have feedback on the Mayfair slip covered sofa collection? I just found these on www.homedecorators.com for an incredible price plus free shipping during their current sale. Planned on ordering Pottery Barn, but the Mayfair pricing is very tempting.

Denise, I was also trying to decide between the oatmeal or ivory and just ordered the Buchanan grand in Oatmeal. I love the cream colors but was too worried with our dog and 3 kids and lots of family gatherings. Are you happy with the oatmeal? Do you still get the same look? We did not get to see a sofa in this fabric - could you post a photo????

Bobkatdes, I love the sunbrella fabric! I have been able to spot clean it a few times and it's come clean. I haven't needed to strip the couch and machine wash the slipcover yet though. Plan on doing it for Srping cleaning soon though. I got the oatmeal because the ivory looked too white and although I am brave going with oatmeal and having a dog a 3 kids, I didn't want to chance it with the ivory. The oatmeal looks much darker on the swatch but as a fabric on the couches looks lighter, just not white. Not sure what look you are going for. If you are going for beachy or farmhouse clean, oatmeal is perfect too. Here are some photos of them in my den....

I've really been impressed with the PB sunbrella fabric. I ordered ivory. I was nervous with 2 kids and a dog (she's not on the furniture, though). Everything has come up by just spot cleaning with water. It's pretty amazing.

Thank you for posting the pictures and confirming you are still happy with the Sunbrella fabric. The pictures look great and I do think the oatmeal will go well with our tones in the room - now I can't wait until we get our new sofa! Did they really take 8 to 10 weeks to arrive?

No. They said it would but it only took about 5! I ordered in September and we had them by the second week in October.

Didn't go as well for us. It took over 12 weeks. They had misplaced one of our slipcovers. But, to be fair, we got a very nice compensation from them.

Currently stuck in an ongoing nightmare with Pottery Barn so very hesitant to ever recommend or order from them again. For over 3-months I've made weekly calls, spoken to 3-managers & escalated to a district manager, only to be told no one can provide me an answer but they will get back to me (which they never do). In summary I ordered a sectional & loveseat with 14-week lead times but requested to cancel the very next morning as I found out PB had very similar sofa 30% off (which nobody showed me) and would have been over $2k savings. PB response was my order was probably too far into process to cancel, but they would try. 1-week later exact set I ordered was 20% off and I begged them to keep my order rather than cancel but give me the sale price, which they said they cannot. 8-weeks later I was advised my order was confirmed cancelled but I would still receive the charge on my PB card, but it would than automatically re-credit & correct the account. It was also suggested that I re-order a 2nd set of sofas on another credit card (which I did not!!). 3-months later I've now been charged for 1/3 of the order as shipped (YES 1/2-sofa shipped!!) but nobody can tell me where it shipped to, nor explain why the credit reversal did not happen. Now's the funny part - I immediately filed a dispute on the charge and also contacted store manager who also followed up on my credit, so now my account shows PB owes ME the disputed amount & their CS rep told me not to cash any checks as I may very likely receive one :-) So based on the shortened version above (oh yes, there's more) I cannot recommend purchasing from PB unless your 100% sure you will not require any followup assistance or help from their customer service. Even the PB card rep I spoke to said he's heard many similar versions of my experience before.

If you have a Pb outlet near you, I recommend buying a sofa that way. I got a Gand comfort arm sofa for 30percent off the discounted price! It is oatmeal linen cotton blend. I bought a slipcover during a sale, and we are very happy with the purchase so far.

For nearly the same price as PB you could get a custom sofa. Lots more choices and styles. It will be made exactly to your specifications. PB is retail, highly inflated prices.

Has anyone tried washing the upholstered PB cushions? They said in the store that you can wash those as well...

To SandyC's comment...I would love custom so if any customers or pros in upstate SC want to share please let me know of some quality custom furniture makers that can beat PB prices (with the 20% off) similar to the Slipcovered English Roll Arm Comfort Grand Sofa.

Do you have a good design shop in town or a designer you can work with? There are many vendors that offer good quality sofas. Lee a Industries is a fairly reputable company.
The thing I like about custom is you get a much better product, better grade upholstery, better frame, better cushions. PB is known to have inferior quality frames and cushions that last about 5 years, not the same as custom. You get what you pay for. There are many articles on PB, RH and such, many of their products are manufactured overseas and are exorbitantly overpriced. They offer the usual retail sale gimmick.

I'm having similar issues with my Four Seasons slip covered sectional as Denise. It came pieced together with velcro, shoddy sewing and the pieces don't even line up. I've been waiting three weeks for them to come pick it up to re-do the work and now I'm thinking that it won't be worth it....Such a disappointment as the Sunbrella fabric I chose was beautiful. I would not recommend them at this point.

Hi. I am sorry to hear about your problems with Four Seasons. I still stick by my original post back in 2012. In fact, I ordered another McCreary Modern slipcover sofa (aka Modern Concepts depending on where you purchase) at the end of last year for our vacation home. My old one has still held up and it is 11 years old. It is the reason why I ordered another one, it is great quality at a good price. They have them at Crate and Barrel and other stores but I purchased mine on highfashionhome.com. They had great prices and the exact dimensions I needed. I was a little weary of ordering online but since I knew the product I took the chance. It all turned out great!

Can anyone recommend good brand hand held steamer for taking wrinkles out of the slip covers? Any other suggestions for care & maintenance would be appreciated. My set finally arrived an hour ago!!

I have looked at these posts and the sofas are beautiful when they are new. I don't like the look of wrinkled slipcovers. I bought the Ikea Ektorp sofa which is considerably less expensive. It is a smaller sofa that does not sink out of shape when I sit on it. To keep the slipcovers like new, I wash/soak them in a mixture of regular detergent and oxyclean and light fabric rinse for about 30 minutes. They are put in the dryer until they are almost dry. Take them out while the seams are still damp--about 30 minutes. Use a light fabric sizing to spray and iron the flat surfaces and pull lightly on the seams to original shape. It takes me a couple of hours to wash and iron because it takes two loads. The fabric is white cotton twill and needs to be washed once or twice a year. The fabric care is similar to blocking a nice sweater after washing. I have had this Ikea sofa for 4 years. Fabric care is not magic. All fabrics require a certain level of care to get the look you want, and I want straight seams and neat slipcovers. After washing, it always looks like new. lljmustang, I hope you get the look you want.

Dear Sap20.... My suggestion would be to return the sofa rather than having them redo it. After my year of dealing with my sofa situation with BOTH the furniture store, a Matter Brothers AND Four Seasons, I wouldn't think there woykd be any improvement in the Velcro 'slipcover-pieces'. The ONLY way I got anyone's attention was to contact my credit card company, Chase, and have them mediate. It was pretty timeconsuming. Luckily I had all of my emails from both the store and the Four Seasons rep. But all I had to do was send them the emails (about 80 pgs) but I did get all of my money back quickly. The store had told me that I could use the FIRSTsofa that vpwas sent (incorrect sue), but I didn't because I was afraid they'd say they never told me I could do it. It's terrible not being able to trust retailers. I still LOVE the used Mitchel Gold sectional I found on Craislist and had a slipcover made in GORGEOUS with the white matlasse fabric I used. Actually, I bought king bedspreads, which was less expensive than fabric. I found and incredible slipcover-maker on Etsy. It is exactly what I wanted! I was lucky to find the Mitchel Gold sectional, as I know it is a good product.

denisenj13 Do you have any photos available of your sofa in the Sunbrella Sahara weave in Oatmeal fabric? I was just at Pottery Barn yesterday, in search of a fabric for our couch. I picked up a swatch of the Oatmeal, but I can't decide if it will be too golden toned for our home and it is so difficult to visualize an entire couch by using a little swatch! I'm so glad to hear of your wine test! We have dogs that absolutely destroyed our first Pottery Barn couch in washed linen cotton ivory. It sounds like a Sunbrella fabric will be the best choice.

Kaiticampbell, I recently received my set in Sunbrella Boss Tweed Pebble which appeared light creamy gray on the sample, but overall look on the furniture is lighter neutral (almost beige) cream color. The fabric is gorgeous & very soft feel, so I highly recommend it, even though it's much lighter than I expected based on the sample.

Kaiticampbell- I actually uploaded two photos of my couches. If you scroll up, you'll see them. They have the blue pillows on then, one says home on the pillow. Underneath those, another woman posted her photos of the same couch, same fabric but in the ivory color. The ivory is very white, the oatmeal is in between off-white and and soft light beige. I've been super happy with my decision. Any little marks has come up fairly easy with soap and water. Either color is beautiful and the fabric is great!

I am the one with the ivory sunbrella. Might be hard to tell from the picture but it's not bright white - definitely an ivory. Even with the light color it has spot cleaned beautifully.

PB has finally started making covers for my PB Comfort Square Arm left arm chaise sectional again and I am considering the Sunbrella fabric to replace the brushed canvas in walnut chewed to death by my Chihuahua. It's my favorite of 3 PB couches as the seats are not too deep and we really enjoyed the chaise. I am a PB Outlet fanatic. Also have the PB Basic slipcovered sofa (in denim, destroyed by toddlers and cats, then brushed canvas walnut destroyed by same Chihuahua and now brushed canvas in an awful sage that's been discontinued (and was therefore on sale)). We are enjoying the PB Comfort rolled arm sofa in Everyday Velvet in Buckwheat, but I live in fear of the Rottweiler rubbing the velvet off. So far my fears are in vain (2 years later), but I keep the back and side where he likes to lounge covered in quilts and blankets. The Chihuahua seems to have outgrown her chewing (and I also kennel her more in our new house). I find the seats a bit too deep and cushy and the knife-edge pillows a bit too unstructured - seems we're always fluffing pillows and putting back in place. We live on our furniture and it has to stand up to our wear and tear. I'd love to keep hearing how the Sunbrella performs. These new slipcovers will cost more than I paid for the sofa in the Outlet all those years ago, but the couch seems worth it. Nothing sits as comfortably as that one did!

Hi Jane Kerr- I have to say that I have had my PB sofas in the sunbrella fabric for over a year and I love it. I had my couches a week and my father-in-law had leaned his oil stained shoes on the bottom of the couch-almost the entire length of the couch with a black line across the bottom! I used a diluted mix of water, soap and and a drop of oxy clean and it came out. I have also had mild stains from the kids that came out from spot cleaning. I recently, (like last) week took all the covers off and washed them in the washing machine. The worst thing about it was the slip on the frame was incredibly difficult to get off. The best thing was they came out as good as new! Just DO NOT dry them in dryer. I put in low tumble for like 10-15 min and put them back on slightly damp. They dry pretty quickly once on the couch. I'm super happy with them!

We have had our 2 couches in sunbrella ivory for just under a year. I also LOVE this fabric. I haven't had any major stains but lots of dirty little feet leaving dark spots, etc and it has come up like magic with a damp cloth spot cleaning. I haven't tackled machine washing them yet. So, I am glad to hear it went well for Denise!

I have 4 (four!) Four Seasons sofas and I need to replace the slip covers. Jordan's (the local distributor) wants to charge me nearly the same price for a slipcover that they charge for an entirely new sofa + slipcover. Does anyone know of any other solutions or vendors?

Go online and get other prices. Silpcovers can easily be shipped.

Are the Four Season's owners still loving their sofas? I am looking at a Four Seasons sectional in Belgian Linen. I have two cats with long hair and claws that have done well on my current linen couch--however it is upholstered and I would love the slipcover option for cleaning. I wanted the Mitchell style but it has been discontinued so probably doing the Jordan with bench cushion instead of multiple cushions and the skirt from the Morgan/Ryanne. The designer recommended going with the comfort cushion instead of the down if I choose to do the single bench seat. She felt it would hold it's shape longer. Any recommendations?
