I have this exact same room ,just last night I picked up a book of scrapbook paper that had all pages with different prints that coordinated with each other ,I then modgepodged them onto the wall...think like a quilt .It had beautiful prints ,stripes florals.turned out gorgeous

I love the bathroom. I would get rid of the shower door and use a curtain. Love that era.

I absolutely LOVE this vintage bathroom. To add storage. I would make a skirt for the bathroom sink. I would also remove the glass shower door & replace with a shower curtain (matching the sink skirt). Perhaps a nice black/white/creme toile would work? You could even add a matching valance with a cafe curtain to tie it all together. Look for inexpensive options at Target & Lowe's. if you decide to paint, make sure NOT to use a semi-gloss or high gloss paint. Shows too many imperfections in the walls. I would try a very light grayish white. This should hold you over for a very long time. Also, those old tubs are cast iron. Great at retaining the heat for a long hot soak. It would be well-worth the small investment to have the tub reglazed. Depending on where you are located, it can run around $250-$350. Kohler white is a good classic color. Highly recommend updating the toilet to a more energy-efficient seat-height model. A good toilet more than pays for it in water savings. Good luck!

I think this is the bath room I use to own. If you are handy I would go to Home Depot and get the material that put white paint over. It is not that expensive and will change the whole feel of the room You can hire to have done as well. And then get updated fixtures and nice framed mirror. Quick and easy and much difference

I def want to tone down the pink, what color should I paint the walls? The upstairs bath is the exact same layout but with white tiles instead of pink.

Agreed, take down that shower door. Just go with the the retro. Add a cute skirt to that sink. I love the floor! You could add a cute bench or retro makeup desk to that little nook. That is if you wear makeup. Have fun with it! Congrats on the house.

I would add some black to offset the pink. Maybe black picture frame, black towels and the like.

I think it's really quite cute overall, and looks like it's in nice condition.

I think that a pale green, similar to that in the Guest House photo posted by m3459 would be nice. Another color that would look nice with this, if you want to keep more of a neutral background is a sand/carmel color, but this might play up the peachy color of the tile too much. How about a nice gray, which would play off the black? If you used a shower curtain like this, you could select towels in both white and gray.

I meant to add that I think BOTH of your bathrooms are very classic and great! The upstairs bath I would approach in the same way, but you can make it any color you want. It looks like the tile has a yellow base to it, so again, if you want to stay monochromatic, you could go with a sand/camel color (darker than the tile), which could look very sophisticated. Other than that, a Robin's Egg blue would look nice (I would stay in the greener end of the blues) as would just about any green.

Kathryn I like the blue idea too, the kitchen has the white tile with black trim and brick pavers for the floor. The pavers have a lot of blue in them and I'm doing blue in the kitchen. I actually like the tile but my husband hates it but it is in really good condition.

Has your husband ever laid tile? If not, give him a tile project. Whoever did the work originally was a highly skilled craftsman. It's truly amazing you have two bathrooms in such good shape. I can tell you it's very had to find good craftsman that care about their work. Once, you do find one, NEVER misplace their number!!!!

My folks had a bath like that. They choose a vivid tropical design wallpaper with a dark background, greens, and shades of pink. It was wonderful and distracted from the pinkness like Brandi's solution.
Do not skirt the sink (it's too kitschy) but buy a pretty basket that fits underneath to store towels, etc.
A tall narrow black cabinet next to the shower will also take the eye away from the tile. You could put hooks on the side for robes, etc.
The cupboards over the commode look claustrophobic. Maybe it's possible to take them down without damaging the tile?

I think you should have fun with this space, why not order a pink sink and toilet! Check them out at renovations.com I would get rid of the shower doors with a curtain as suggested above.

Andie P - I checked out the blog! Loved it! I never thought about painting the tile but that is a great idea. I have 2 questions though-
1. Does the paint adhere well or is it easily scratched off
2. What about the grout lines? Do you just paint them too?
