Cotton or linen for upholstery

Hi, I'm looking for affordable fabric to reupholster our thirteen year old sofa. I found this irish linen fabric that has the right color and is within my price range but I hear that 100% linen means that the sofa will get wrinkled quickly? Any suggestions or ideas on what kind of fabric is best for sofa? What can you do to reduce the wrinkly factor with linen fabric? Any good affordable online sources for upholstery fabric? Thanks!

Have you looked specifically for upholestry fabric? I find it hard to believe they would wrinkle. I wouldn't use a regular fabric designed for clothing for something like a couch.

Anything more than 50% cotton in a blend will not hold up in upholstery. So between the two, choose a linen blend that will take care of your wrinkly problem.

@hayleydaniels @m3459 I looked specifically for upholstery fabric but my upholsterer says that linen tend to wrinkle more than cotton. I think it's because the fabric I showed her is a bit on the thin side although it is supposed to be for upholstery.

You could have a backing attached to the linen which would keep it smoother. Don't go with fabric that is too thin to begin with in any case. Use it for accent pillows or window treatments if you love it and find something a bit sturdier for upholstering a sofa. Lighter upholstery fabrics are better for something not used that much. See
