Has anyone painted their recessed lighting trim?

Have any of you tried to paint the trim for your recessed lighting? I'm thinking about painting both the ring trims, which are faded white, and the black housings. I would like to paint them the same color as my ceilings. Any tips, suggestions or things I should watch out for? Should I worry about the paint flaking off in a couple of months/years?

Easier to just replace the trim...not that expensive.

No I have not but I have seen Led replacement bulbs for cans that bring the light flush with the trim, so no black shows. Prices have come down and they use almost no electricity.

Yes clean them well then prime them with a bonding primer it's best to use a spray application

Rockin', do you notice enough of a difference when you paint it the ceiling shade of white to make it worth the effort?

When light rings are painted its intended so they don't stand out what exactly are you trying to achieve ?

I spray painted the baffles flat black on some 5" cans to match new ones. Agree replacement trims are easy and cheap.

These days you can buy different coloured trim. It's not overly expensive either and saves you the hassle of trying to paint such a tricky place
Plus the finish will be of a better quality. Not saying you're a bad painter or anything but saves a lot of work.

That was my intention, Rockin'. My condo has a lot of recessed lights and I would like to find a way to lessen their visual impact.

Painting will help hide them usually we do this in big ceilings with lots of can lights it helps it not look like a landing strip

You can paint them, but it won't last terribly long. Being that close the lamp in the can, the paint gets cooked pretty well and will yellow and/or start to become brittle and peel off. I've seen it time and again on can lights, track lights, shades, you name it. It's a short term solution.
