washing cream denim clipcovers

I recently had a cream denim slipcover made that I love. With a house full of kids there have been a few spills and its time to clean them. I do not think the seamstress pre-washed the fabric before sewing. Is the risk of shrinking too great to wash at home or is dry cleaning my only option if the fabric was not pre-shrunk. would love some help!!!!! Thank You!

You might have to touch-up iron the skirt so it won't be wrinkled.

What you will want to do to minimize shrinkage is to wash in cold water and line dry.. You can put it in the dryer on low heat, take it out while it is still damp-dry, and put it on the sofa while it is still damp.

awesome......Thank you so much. Was so concerned about giving it a try without the fabric being pre-shrunk. have you washed slipcovers this way?

Do you have any of the fabric left over? Outline a piece of paper and then wash it. Compare the outline to the washed fabric.

I had a pottery barn couch that had a cream slipcover. I washed it in cold and hungs it up til it was almost dry. Then iron it and try to put it on. The ironing will help take it back to it's original size if it's damp. Then put it back on slighty damp it's easy to move it and restretch it if needed.

Wash in cold water, dry in cool dryer and put them back on the furniture while they're still damp. Personally? I always wash any fabric I am going to make into a slipcover in HOT water and I put it through a HOT DRYER before I begin to cut!

I have made many custom slipcovers, both for myself and as a business, and the method I stated is what I use and recommend.
