I have a gas fireplace in my bedroom, I could not live without it!! I turn it on just before I go to bed and set the timer for 30 minutes. Its gas w/ a direct vent, next house I will put one in the kitchen too. NOT wood, been there hated them!!

When we added a large master bedroom suite onto our house several years ago we put a gas fireplace in the bedroom and I LOVE it! In fact I am lying on my bed with a cheerful fire burning in the fireplace as I write this! Put one in, you will be glad you did.

I love the esthetic of fireplaces in a bedroom and the functionality (warmth), too. Unfortunately, in many areas having an open source of heat in bedroom is not up to building code. I fully understand the reasons behind such codes. One would not want to get burned alive while sleeping if the fireplace is left burning through the night and a spark catches the bedding or anything else flammable, and one would not want to die in his sleep due to carbon monoxide or natural gas poisoning either (in case of a gas leak for those who use gas fireplaces).

If you have the space, the means, the safety rules are in place and the maintenace is regular, why not, its so nice and relaxing.

Love my gas fireplace in the bed room. Husband installed a remote with a timer to shut it off!! We use it almost every evening in the winter, we have long winters here. I would give up my dishwasher before my fireplace, also have one in hearth room ( aptly named).

I have an electric one and I have to say it is fabulous. In the winter it is a source of safe heat while the rest of the house can have the thermostat turned down. It adds visual warmth at any time as we can have flame effect and no heat. It is on a remote, thermostat and a timer..huge impact for low cost.

I don't have room for one in my bedroom. Would love to have one for that cozy feeling. Would probably want a gel one. We don't read or watch TV in the bedroom, so for practical reasons, it would not get used much. But I'd still like one : )

No! A waste of wall space. I'd rather have windows or room for dressers and a chair...

We have a wood burning fireplace in our master bedroom. Never used it . We are thinking to demolish the fireplace . Looking for suggestions from real state perspective, is it a good feature to have it in master bedroom or not?

I have 5 fireplaces in my 1600s colonial and two of them are in 2nd floor bedrooms. They add so much to the ambiance of the rooms. be aware however that in some cities and towns there are zoning laws that prohibit the use of existing fireplaces in bedrooms and the installation of new ones.

There is nothing more romantic than a fireplace in a bedroom.

Hopefully the fireplace isn't the only thing that is hot in the bedroom . . . coffee.

The flicker of the flames makes me nervous. Of course I'm talking about a FIREPLACE not a glorified gas broiler with fake logs that so many people have today.

I think the most practical heating for a bedroom is a reverse cycle air con, but personally I have neither. If it's cold, then a nice snuggle under the blankets is what I enjoy. A fireplace in the living or family room - now that's a different story.

We have a very large wood burning fireplace in the corner of our master bedroom and we love it. It is so cozy and relaxing to sit by the fireplace on a cold winter's eve with a cup of hot chocolate and a good read.
In our previous home, we had a gas log fireplace in the master. It was nice but the wood burning is much, much, much better :)

I don't have one as it is very hot where we live. Sometimes people like to buy the mantels just to give a room a focal point or make it look cosier. It works for many people.

It would be attractive, particularly when selling but it's essentially frivolous and wouldn't be used much by a normally busy person. It's like hot tubs which have become passe.

I have 2 fireplaces here in Georgia and one of them (gas burning) and one of them in 10 years has never been used! My girlfriend said that her bedroom fireplace makes it too "hot" in the bedroom when romantic with her husband haha. I say NO.

I doubt I would use it too often, but I definitely want one. Even for a few nights a year it would be well worth it.

There is not a lot of need for a fireplace in Florida but there are a couple times a year where it would be so cozy.

I think the key to a fireplace in the bedroom is the ability to switch it on/off, rather than the need to split and stack the firewood.

Fireplaces in the bedroom look great as long as its actually functional.

I wouldn't even mind just a faux fireplace in the bedroom. Really adds something to the ambience.

Dimplex has a new faux fireplace called the Opti-Virtual that is purely aesthetic and doesn't provide. They actually just released it last month.

It uses an LED screen and a video feed of an actual fire. It's pretty impressive. Some people don't like it because it doesn't provide heat but it serves a different visual purpose which would be useful in cases like yours.

If you have the space, would be lovely to have a seating area around it to enjoy a book and fire!

I can imagine snuggled in bed, a good movie on the TV, a nice glass of wine and oh, it's snowing outside and that warm fire is just sooo nice!! Next home maybe?

Having lived through a Arctic Deep Freeze in NM where gas and electric service quit, i would want at least one wood burning fireplace or a pellet stove. It's peace of mind knowing you another source of warmth for cooking and heating.

had them in bedrooms. only if gas . no interest in cleaning or hauling ashes or wood. now I live in the sub-tropics and do not need a FP anywhere.

If you are a person who enjoys a primal love for staring into a fire, one in the bedroom can never be a frivolous desire. Try freestanding fireplaces as well for a more inexpensive option.

Have a fireplace (gas) in the master bedroom and we love it. Every morning in cold weather we turn it on with the remote and have coffee in bed for an hour or so. (We can finally do that we're retired now). Than get up and go into the kitchen and turn that fireplace on.
