Remodeling a kitchen that opens to a living room. The ceiling is vaulted and will covered with knotty pine. Am seeking suggestions about what type of wood to use for flooring and cabinetry. I am thinking a darker oak wide plank for the floors (want something durable). Am considering some sort of alder (medium/light?) for the cabinets.

We will use some sort of laminate on the countertops which include an L-shaped island. Any ideas would be appreciated!!!
