Have you thought about mirrors fitted under cupboards you can have made in smoke glass & add another step with led lights under cupboards for a nice effect at night.

I've had mirror backsplash for 6 years now and love it. It makes the kitchen so bright and the kitchen looks twice as big. It is so easy to clean with window cleaner.

I would recommend perspex (toughened plastic ) You can colour it or for a dramatic effect

A soft blue would help warm up the kitchen a bit.

What a beautiful kitchen! I think it looks great so far! I would recommend adding some texture, as most of your surfaces are slick and shiny, and while you have a great contemporary design, every kitchen still needs to look warm and inviting. I'm suggesting 2 tiles from overstock; the first is more of a tonal gray on gray palette, and the second has some brown added into the gray, to give a warm color added to the cool grays. Both have stone in the mix of tiles, and will add visual interest, and still allow you to keep a third accent color, like the red you have, or maybe a deep blue. If you stay with the red, I'd perhaps go for a warmer crimson red, and not a deep dark red.

Then add a few accent pieces, like a red Kitchenaid Mixer, a red centerpiece for the island, and perhaps a 2 tiered candy/cupcake tray, and a long red kitchen rug in a nubby texture.

I would put a soft aqua, blue-gray, or taupe backsplash in your kitchen--something that adds a little color without being too busy or high contrast. Or one that is mostly white with some blue-gray accents (last photo).
