I am considering purchasing this countertop but I am a bit confused on the terms "edge" and "seam". I have a "U" shaped kitchen. Where exactly will I see brown lines and what is the best way to purchase this top so these lines are the least visible? I would be willing to upgrade the profile or whatever you call it if need be. Anyone, help with this decision please? Thank you.

Hi Dixie - The edge shows a seam or "brown line". The brown line is on

The difference between edge and seam comes from the kind of laminate counter you choose--all counters have edges, not all counters have seams on the edges (or quite as many seams).
One kind of laminate countertop has individual pieces of laminate cut for each plane of the countertop, the old school squared edges from the 50's. The other kind is called "postformed". The sheet laminate is applied to an underlayment with a decorative edge under heat and pressure so the edge and top are all one seamless piece (and the pattern matches seamlessly). A third option is a bit of a diy hybrid, where the manufacture offers postformed edging to glue onto sheet formed counters. This option doesn't show the seam as much as the squared off edge but isn't pattern matched to the top. And a fourth option is a mitered edge, where the sheet is applied to the top of the counter, then grooved and folded down over the edge resulting in squared off edges, seamless edges, AND pattern matching.
