Need help with wall colors

I need to paint my living room and stairs. Have hard time selecting colors. My furniture is dark brown and the living room is pretty small. The overall design style is contemporary, however, I don't like white walls. Please help!

    You have a lot of walls that run together. Will you be able to find a place to stop or are you willing to paint it all? I agree that a dash of color will warm your home up instantly. What about a greige?
