Too small table centered under beam. Slide over to one side or the other and move the mirror down a little closer to the table, to 'join' them up somewhat. Art to stay higher up due to little ones? (See baby gate)

If a mirror will double something beautiful or interesting, get a larger one and hang it 5" above the table adding only visually weightier items to the table top and not tissues. If you'll only see another wall, or worse, the kitchen, in the mirror, opt for art. You could put something under the table too.

Can you fit a chair on either side of the table? I see now that that wall is between two doors. I was about to suggest a large plant but then I remembered the two babies. :D.

decoenthusiaste is right about something under the table/desk area. Maybe nicer basket like containers with lids for kiddos overflow of toys? Several plank type shelving on the other side might finish off the lower wall area then do your deco stuff.

Add 2 small ottomans in a color. square. Under table to fill space. On longer side add a big faux palm in a big pot n a accent color. On table add 3 various size pots to one end and a bowl on other end. On shorter wall tall 4 ft pots in accent color mix with a black or silver on floor. Get a much bigger 45" sunburst mirror hang 6" from top of table .

Stick a yellow pillow in that chair above to balance out and tie into the yellow pot.

still thinking about how to make those 7 necessary wall items blend in. (electric plug, sconce, etc.) the floor plant is a great option for the lower. If your budget allows, groveraxle has the notion that some larger things will work better. I surely agree.

In grover's scenario I think you would have room for a tall floor item behind the chair. Another taller plant or a floor lamp if you need the light. The pots on the plants don't have to match. :)

I also like the idea of adding a nice chair. You can keep the mirror, but you definitely need to add some art work to that wall. Or you can get a bigger mirror as well. I think that you should use your current mirror and incorporate it with some pictures so it can be a gallery wall.
