It looks like marble; if you want the same type of look and feel without the price, you could go with something like recycled glass countertops. Its really a luxury look and feel but its less "fragile" so to speak and comes in many different colors.

Also agree that it looks like Calacatta White marble from Carrara Italy. This photo shows the marble in 3cm (1 1/8'). Calacatta White varies a lot between shipments, and typically you'll find a more appealing and better selection in 2cm (3/4"), due to that cost of the raw material.

thanks so much. but calacutta is very delicate even when its honed. Right?

Calacutta looks beautiful in photos, but its practicality for kitchen use is questionable. Honed is definitely better and it must be sealed. Wipe up after any spill of vinegar, red wine, soy sauce, etc. or else it will etch the marble. Also be sure to always use a cutting board or else you will mark the stone terribly. Marble is soft. If you like the look but durability and maintenance are a factor, then look for lighter granites such as Bianco Antico or White Delicatus. You can even explore products such as Silestone etc. Milk Glass is a great countertop as well. It depends on the look of your kitchen. Good luck!

Polished or Honed. the white marbles do show etching. My experience with the Calacatta is that it looks more alive when it is polished and letting in "patina" naturally gives it a authentic aged look. Clients that understand the white marbles are going to change, grow to love a appreciate the look.

I am planning on having a calacatta marble installed for our bathroom counters, vanity and shower bench seat. I just love the look of marble and can't seem to find any granite or quartzite that wow me. Do I need to worry? I realize that it is a soft stone and will not remain perfect but I think that's part of the beauty of it over time. How is wear affected by whether it is polished or honed?

I used Callacutta marble for my counter tops in the master bath but used porcelain tile in my shower with the threshold in callacutta marble and it looks great and no care!

Great to hear! I recently completed my project and did the same and everything is beautiful and so far, so easy to keep clean.
