Which bar stool works best?

I've finally narrowed down my bar stool choices to two after my original post yielded many suggestions. Both of these would work and are priced right. I favor the aluminum stool because it seems like the safer, can't go wrong choice. I favor the wood and iron because of the nice contrast against the island. My kitchen is open to the family room which has a gray couch and light gray walls but also a chestnut colored club chair and dining table/chairs in a rich wood color. Not sure if the wooden stool is too light in color, but I presume all the wood tones don't need to match exactly. Need help deciding which direction to go in. http://www.crateandbarrel.com/spin-barstools/f2617

You've done a great job so far. I prefer the wood ones. Adds a bit of warmth.

Both look great. Visually I prefer the wood but functionally I love the spin factor. What a beautiful kitchen, just stunning.

The C & B ones seem to match the kitchen better AND they look more comfortable. They are also more versatile. 1 vote for the C & B stools.

Wait...are they too high when sitting at the counter?

I thought msloc's was the winner, but unfortunately they are too tall:( I need counter height not bar height. What a shame.

I've had these counter stools from crate and barrel for about 8 years. Yes, they fully swivel however the bearing has been stripped out of all 4 of ours due to general use. The pieces of the bearings/guide randomly fall out and they're greasy/messy. We are currently building a new home and I'm going the wood route this time. Just my experience. (We currently have a 3 year old and we both work full time - so use/wear is "normal." If I was a stay at home mom or had more kids who used them the wear/tear would be more understandable.)

Are these stools counter height? http://www.dwr.com/product/emeco-barstool-brushed.do?sortby=ourPicks I think it would be fun to have colored stools at the counter too.

Hi mlosc, the emeco is available in counter height but after remodeling the kitchen are a bit steep for us at $400 a piece (we need 4). FYI, I reached out to the folks at apt2b, your first suggestion, and they have a counter height version of the steel/wood combo which they just added to their site. So that might work. Hope to decide over the next few days. The stools have been more work than the whole kitchen:)

your kitchen is great but I would get a barstool with some color - perhaps pull in the yellow that is in the pillows? I would also do a sleek, contemporary barstool with a back on it!

There's a Mason Counter stool from Pier 1 that would look nice. Many colors too. My in-laws have them and they seem great quality. I'm ordering them now for our home.

Beautiful home! Of the two you have it narrowed down to I think the wood ones work better. The metal ones are a little cold. Did you ever consider upholstered barstools? Maybe in a leather or faux leather? Upholstery tends to be more comfy to sit on. I would also suggest stools with a back.

Definitely the chrome Crate and Barrel stools. They fit right in with the rest of the room and tie everything together. They cool tones you've used in your kitchen are just beautiful!
