10 year old kitchen reface!

last modified: 12 years ago
After 10 years of our bleached oak kitchen, we decided to give the kitchen a "face lift" rather than a total gut job. We had all the doors replaced and changed the back-splash and counter top. For the finishing touches light fixtures were changed and the walls were re-painted.

Lucky you that only after 10 years you can update your kitchen. It is really nice. I am thinking of doing exact same thing but my oak kitchen is 30 years old but I am still not 100% convinced since I don't know the cost and we are planning trip to Europe this summer so I am afraid that I will have to choose between kitchen and Europe(4 of us). May I ask how much was your update and what kind of counter top is it?
    Thanks

nice color choices - very nice job!

Very lovely update and color choices, but I think you could have had the same impact just painting the old doors. They weren't so very different.

Very nice and love the light fixtures. My cupboards are bleached oak. This is good inspiration! Saving your before and after.

I want to pain my white washed oak cabinets, what is the name of the cabinet color? It looks like a light characol color.
It's called Audacity. It's a warm grey which can look grey-brown. I however did not paint the cabinet doors, but had them refaced.

Ashdafpirani I am from Oakville :)
Can you tell me how much was refacing?
    STUNNING ! ! :)
Hello Sondramartina. The refacing of the doors was approximately 12k. I have extended cabinets and I replaced my island. I also changed a few cupboards to drawers. Depending on what you would like to do, your cost could differ (+ or -). Frank, the owner of Techno Kitchens will come to your place and give you honest suggestions according to your budget.

Was that all done by Techno? Thank you very much . I will give them a call .
Yes Sondra. Techno took care of everything to do with the cabinets.

Wanted to show picture of window area. Framed the window with the backsplash

I got the estimate from them ,I did not like the price. Looking at your kitchen size plus your island you got much more for 12k than what I would get for 7-8k WITHOUT countertop.

Beautiful color for the cabinets! Very modern with clean lines!

Hello Sondramartina. I'm sorry things didn't work out. My cost did not include the counter tops either, but as I mentioned earlier, we did make many changes to the function along with the cabinet doors.

Great update! Can you tell me where you found your light over the kitchen table?
Thank you for your comments. Found the light at Victoria Lighting. Located on McCowan and highway 7 in Markham.

We have the same whitewashed oak cabinets. I am just looking at refinishing in an off white but yours look stunning, congratulations on un-whitewashing yourself!!

Did you remove the bulkhead over the cabinets?
    What size are your uppers
Did you change the size of opening for your fridge? Looks a bit small
  • 12 years ago
Don't have bulkheads. That's the lights you see. We have fluorescent tube lights on top of our cabinets. I have extended cabinets not sure of the actual length. The opening of my fridge looks smaller because of the valance added on.

Thank you. We are enjoying our new kitchen. We are in the process if purchasing a new dual fuel range (30"). Stuck between a bosch, GE or jennair pro? Any suggestions.

It's amazing how different it looks based on the (what seems) to be minor aesthetic updates you made. Really gorgeous!
Nice job! I like the facelift approach...even if I had big bucks to spend a kitchen remodel wouldn't be on my list!
What color did you go with on the walls? did you use the same color on the walls of the room we can't see in the pic?
We used Benjamin Moore Collingwood in the kitchen. The family room we had revere pewter.
