Yes, I have been thinking of moving it to the big blank wall. But then...what would be good to put in its place? Maybe a bookcase or something?? The open kitchen/dining area is partially blocked by the loveseat, but there is plenty of space to walk through.

How about moving the armoire to the wall where your darling dog is lounging? Move the couch to the big wall, the chair over where the couch is with the end table between them. Put a panoramic picture of some sort with a nice frame and matting over the couch. See how it works out, and go from there.

A nice colorful rug placed under the edge of the furniture would also add a lot of warmth and charm to your room.

With some of your blank wall space such as in your wall, make some collages of your family. You can get a variety of collage frames of various sizes so make use of them as you can afford. I have two in my hall, one going back over 20 years and it's fun to see how everyone has changed--except me of course. LOL.

I like these ideas. I definitely need more pictures on the wall, I have thousands just sitting on my computer LOL. Guess its time to do something with them. When you say the panoramic picture, is that to go above the windows? I think my furniture is too big, thinking of getting something more updated. Also the roman shades, I really like the functionality of them, but think I might need some drapes to go over them. But maybe that's too much....

Start with a large area rug for the family room. Pick window treatments that are long to floor and hang them higher than window, maybe a foot or so above window to bring window height up, and a lighter color. Remove tv monstrosity in room. Hang tv on wall that is blank, a nice wrap around couch piece may work well in that room. Some nice large art pieces on wall, or large mirror would look nice, a piece of artwork on mantle or hung above mantle. Candles of different heights, or baskets for texture would look nice on mantle as well. Throw pillows to brighten room on wrap around couch, to coordinate with rug, windows, colors. Remember, use different patterns, textures, fabrics, so doesn't look so plain. Declutter and get rid of tv console. A large! area rug will warm room right up and make it feel cozy. The color is the issue for me with the roman shades but it probably be made to work. I would start with a floor plan and a overall plan of what you want to do before you purchase one item. The de-cluttering you plan is a great start.

Yes, from the picture they do appear to stand out to much. I am not opposed to changing them out for something else. Any suggestions? I have trouble with this because my kitchen is navy blue. Not sure why but I just don't know what color to go with that. I have even thought of putting a high rod that extends across the doors too.

I like the colors of your walls, the shades(look bamboo or reddish material) and plant. I would like to see that area more isolate(like moving the furniture as indicated and adding more plants. ) More space around the French doors and as far as the bare wall, even if you move the armoire/tv, it would be nice to add some art to that bare wall. I find that I like to walk around my house and find what has been hanging in the wrong space or finding some interesting antique that can be hung or whatever.

You can put a clear brick gloss on the fireplace, or even one with a little bit of orange. Paint one wall the complementary colour to the brick--a warm robin's egg blue? You also need to balance out the dark left corner (It has the big black flat screen). You can do this by moving the tv and its stand to the far right (the dark frame on the inner lining of the fireplace creates a nice balance), or have a large tapestry/wall hanging on the right side with darker colours. Finally, one sure way to make your home cozy, without all the above stuff is get a nice area rug down in a solid warm colour, again something that complements the orangy/red brick of the fireplace.

An area rug would add a lot of softness and create a cozier space. Also, more ambient lighting would help. Try adding another floor reading lamp. Good luck!
