I prefer tile in the kitchen for durability (I am not a designer though...), but several kitchens on houzz have wood floors in them and they look great.

I would carry the wood into the kitchen. Just looking at the two different finishes helped make up my mind without hesitation. It will be beautiful.

If you can match the hardwood, continue it.

One side note, try turning the table the other way. Is it a square or rectangle? Then maybe the buffet can go on the other wall.

the table is rectangle, I think I will give it a try moving it so i can put the buffet on the other wall, it is really cramped there, we aren't sure we will even keep it there cause its pretty large, I plan to make it into a coffee bar of sorts, any suggestions on a piece to put there ?

hardwood in kitchen, i love mine !!! hides dirt well, we have kids !! it's almost hundred years old too, so it has the lovely looks of usage. it is a darker color, not light. you won't regret it

I had hardwood in the kitchen and did not care for it. It was a very light color, though. I have several friends with hardwood in the kitchen that have mentioned they would love to rip it out. If it is a high traffic area and you mop often like we do, then you may want to consider the type of wood you use carefully. Not all woods wear the same.

We have hardwood floors in our kitchen and love them. The floors are almost 90 years old and still going strong. And our last house had a beautiful old hardwood kitchen floor too. I don't really have a basis for comparison because I've never owned a house with a tile floor in the kitchen, but I have no complaints about our hardwood kitchen floors, and they are so beautiful.

hi read your ?. i just made a coffee bar with the top of a hoosier cabinet hung on the wall and an old kitchen table found both on craigs list. Planning to add a shelf somehow for the stuff on the underneath. you can also see some of the floor too.

Hardwood! I have the same hardwood throughout the entire main floor of my house, I love the consistency that it brings to the house.

We did Forbo Marmoleum click flooring in our kitchen about 4 years ago...love it! Very easy to clean, so easy on your feet, cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Also it is made of natural materials - cork bottom. Very easy to install- not painful at all! We have hardwood in the rest of the house. Sorry- don't mind the happy husband in photo- only one I could find!!

if it's open, i'd continue the hard wood. if it's closed to the other area, go for the tile- it's more durable and the styles/price ranges are limitless

I like the durability of tile floors but I prefer the same flooring throughout an open plan space, so I would go with hard wood. Perhaps a lovely rug for under the dining table once you rearrange it :)

In an open space such as yours I would continue the hardwood into the dining area and kitchen. It will make for a harmonious flow between the spaces. The combination of tile and hardwood is chopping up the spaces. Wood floors are also more comfortable to stand on. You can always add an attractive indoor/outdoor runner in front of the sink if you like and an area rug under the dining table.
