Need help for my kitchen

Redoing our kitchen. We have a long rectangular table (that we're keeping) and are looking for a light fixture. Designer telling us to use a drum pendant but I don't think I like single round lights over rectangular tables. The one she chose has a 21.5" diameter and our table is 94" long. It seems that many photos which appeal to me have either two round lights or one which is linear, like island pendants. Any thoughts?

Can you provide a photo or two of this table?

Trust your instincts, and I agree, it is your house....you need to "love' the finished product. Sound like you want more than one light and there are tons of options for you to choose from.

Let's see pix of area so we can better assist

Definitely a centered 21" light is not enough for an 8' table. I think you're on the right track looking at 2. Do a search here on "dining room with two lights' - lots of really nice ideas came up.

Here are pics of the table. (The knee wall behind the table will be gone in a couple weeks.) The newspaper circle in the middle is a rough 21" circle. The fixture over the table now is soon to be on Craigslist - it's not the right tone for the new stuff.

If your mouse hovers over the pics for a moment, it zooms out a bit so that you can better see the scale.

That is a gorgeous table! Definitely take your time with the decision.

One more thing... we are planning to put two pendant lights over the island which is in the bottom corner of the first picture. As you can see, the island is right next to the table.

I'm betting that is why the single chandy, which would be centered between the island pendants, was suggested. Do take those island lights into consideration as you choose your table fixture. A possible compromise would be a single assymetrical fixture.

For the table, possibly something like this from PB, the larger one.

Studio, I think I know what you're saying but the island runs perpendicular to the table. So the large round pendant would never be viewed "between" the island pendants. I'll take another pic as soon as I get our current island cleared. = )

The new island will be roughly the same size but rectangular. As it is, we're planning on two 11" pendants like the one below from RH.

Judy, I don't think that I want to go as formal as that but it's beautiful.

Here's what our designer has in mind (from Hudson Valley). I love the fixture but I'm not easy about the proportion. These are a little pricey so two of them is out of the question.

My personal opinion, you would be better with a single fixture over your table. The two island pendants would end up competing (so to speak) with the two fixtures over the table. If I was doing it, I would use some type of linear or rectangular fixture over the table.

Maybe something like this... Z-Lite Casia (48" long)

Or this Hinkley Sussex (if brushed nickel goes with your island pendants)

I like the rectangular one. What's going on at the bottom of the fixture? The more I look at it, the more I like the bottom one too. Thanks!

Those are crystals similar to the PB fixture posted earlier, but the drum gives it a more understated look- and there's just enough crystals to give a little sparkle without being too formal or overpowering. You won't want to detract from your island lights.

There's a 36" long version as well if the 48" is too large
