2 bathroom questions

Hi!

We are redoing our master bath and kids bath at the same time. They share a wall, but the master is an ensuite Neither room is big - just standard 5 piece and 4 piece bathroom. I have 2 questions:

1). In the kids bath, I would love to get rid of the tub/shower combo and just have a 60" shower, but I am worried about resale. I am thinking that I will put a sleek tub in and then do a 1/2 panel glass enclosure and leave the other half open for a more contemporary look. But I started wondering if that is practical. My kids are older, but someone with younger kids would have a hard time bathing them. Should I worry about this?

2). Should the bathrooms be done in similar color and tile given their proximity? I'm thinking not, but looking for validation :)

Is there going to be a tub in the en suite? If so, I would put the larger shower in the kids bathroom. And I do not like those partial glass door enclosures on a tub. I think you are correct with that being hard to maneuver around with small children.

My theory is that if there is at least one tub then that would be fine for resale. Others will disagree. But do what YOU want to do to accommodate your family now.

I do think it will be a drawback not to have a tub - even with your own. You forget how much everyone needs them sometimes if you aren't feeling well, or you get too chilled - when you are black and blue and need to soak. Don't match the tile . . go for classic in the kids / main bath and lovely in yours and don't worry about matching at all.

I think 1 tub is sufficient for re-sale purposes, and no the two bathrooms do not have to match.

The ensuite should work with the master bedroom, as it is an extension of that room.

The kids bathroom can be whatever design you choose. If you go big shower, try open with no lip, which means someone who is disabled could use their walker or wheelchair to enter. Also means two shower heads - if you can afford rain shower in middle, would be great - and then a hand held off wall of shower.

My husband was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's disease, so we ensured renovated bathroom was handicap friendly with two showerheads, grab bars in tub area and beside toilet.

Always smart to think ahead when undergoing a renovation.

I would make the master bath with a shower only ( unless you use the tub a lot yourself) and make the room really an oasis. Use the kids bathroom to have a large tub that is easy to get around in/out. That way it can be used by adults if need be.
When I was young, my parents had a small ensuite bathroom that was my "dad's; with a very skinny shower, only. In the other, main bathroom, it had double vanity and 2 tubs! they were actually triangle shaped tubs in a square enclosure. One was open completely (mom's baths) , but did have a shower head installed just incase. The other one had that acrylic wavy door and had a shower. We mostly showered in there. There is an old picture somewhere of my brother and sister jammed in together wen they were little.
