I would gut it. The lines seem all wrong and you could actually save money just by replacing than refurbishing

Thank you that is just what I thought. I also restained the trim in the entire house as it was "honey oak" (House was built in 1992) and painted the walls gray. Here is the before/after

I can see that you've put in a lot of work into retaining the trim and I love dark wood frame windows. However, because the bathtub panel is so large, it actually draws your eye toward the bottom and towards those burnt red tiles. I would recommend painting the bathtub panel white. You could install a quartz slab on top of the tiles around the bathtub which will contemporize the space without having to do a compete gut job.
