Do you live in a secure area? French doors are more easily broken into, but they would be nice if that is not an issue.

It is a secure area and we are retired so home a great deal of the time except when travelling for pleasure. I would like to update the look and allow more access at the front door. It is very tight when you enter with no closet or mud room just a set of half stairs up to the main floor and a set down to the family room.

So no leaded glass what would you suggest I am a bit clueless.

The front door and side lights definitely and possibly beefing up the pillars but I would like to keep to a reasonable budget as we have had a lot of repairs this year.

Yes, no leaded glass. If you wanted a bit more light you could do something like this.

Simpson 7501 & sidelight is 7801. Your house would accept these clean lines, and it would update. Your budget will be close unless you're DIY'ers. I just picked up two of these 3/4 light doors and am finishing them with Daly's Ship & Shore with topcoat of Daly's Teak Oil. Truly gorgeous.
