gutter helmet gutters....icicles...do you break them off, leave alone?

worried about ice damming inside damage to drywall?

    The issue with trying to take down ice like that is the safety of those below trying to do this, and not breaking windows, twisting or damaging what is iced up... icicles can be fatal if they hit a person. I had issues with this house with some ice damming at a 'roof ridge feature' at the front door, and when that stuff sloughed off, it would hit and break the master bedroom windows! (that's been fixed)

    This looks like it seriously needs a heat tape to prevent these issues... and some further back checking about ice damming and water backup into places you don't want it.
