I often think lighter wood, colors are appropriate for frontage properties. I would consider painting your cabts white or with a min. yellow tint.

I like the furnishings/rugs, given your limited space in the family room. Exchange the surface mount lts. for pendants at the island. If you have the budget, change out the surface mt. lts. in the family room with recessed cans. Happy Houzzing.

I definitely feel the windows need something to warm them up. A valance or drapery flanking each side. I don't get that empty cabinet above the tv. It looks awkward, like it was stuck up there to balance the large tv or something. If it's in the budget, I'd suggest getting a media center to surround the tv on the wall. Tile backsplash would help (in your kitchen) bring life to it.

Thank you all! I would love to paint the cabinets lighter color however that is the newest part of the house. Not what I would have picked. Lots of other things to finish first. Maybe a backsplash is all I could do there.

I dislike the tan walls too! What do y'all think about white wood planking or bead board? Bad idea with low ceiling ?

What is the height of ceilings. To begin, I would paint everything a warm white, trim included. Also move sofa away from window. Do you have a lot of trees that need trimming, this will let in light. Would still paint the cabinets, Even though new, they make your room dark. Add more recessed lighting.

Just hate people telling you to paint your kitchen cabinets. They are beautiful and look new.

I would lower the flat screen to just-above the white console cabinet and remove the one above the TV. It is not useful and does not work,

There are lots of options. To bring it to life economically I would choose a bright backsplash, like robins egg blue, or some other bright color you love. Removing the white cabinet above TV is a really good idea. Remove half wall going up stair case & replace with a beautiful banister. It will open up the space. Small amounts of space make a big difference. The sofa's are too large. Getting 2 lower & more tailored sofas will preserve your ceiling height.

I like to see more white on the walls. it seems as though its in a very shady area.
