I'd move the furniture out a bit ( away from fireplace wall), change angle of couch to parallel FP wall, & would mount TV above FP & lose the stand.

Thanks for sharing! We just bought a house and the family room is almost identical to yours...beam ceiling, fake wood paneling, and a stone wall fireplace at the end of the room. Unfortunately, no window in the room...just a pass through from the kitchen. I'll be curious to see how yours comes out.

Melissa, that is a vast improvement. Good job! I'd prefer the mirror over the fireplace and the clock in its place. If you move the torchiere lamp to the diagonal corner you won't visually cut the lines of the fireplace.

2 slipper chairs might look good on the fireplace wall brighten up the sofa with pillows and a throw or coverlet , you can change out for the seasons or your mood with a punch of color or white with lighter color lamps a collection of photos or vintage mirrors behind the sofa ( I recommend a sleeker more modern style sofa and lighter coffee table - paint the side table I am guessing it is a TV room ... if not add
a small table and chairs or desk to the right and above the fireplace a collection of something -( vintage trophies come to mind ) and a rug on the rug in front of the sofa will look good plants you need plants .

This room appears to have 8' ceilings. I would Definetly add simple drapery panels but make sure you hang them next to ceiling. 8' panels. It will give the room the appearance of being taller. Also I agree with previous comment on mounting tv above fireplace. If you can (if there is enough room to walk) float sofa in middle of room facing tv and flank fireplace with 2 beautiful chairs. (No old lazy boy style) Also, when you can, I would recommend putting sofa table behind sofa with pier lamps to provide lighting. My advice of course, is worth what you pay for it , you can take or not. Lol :) have been a designer for 25 Years. I think you have a good start! Just keep in mind furniture DOES NOT have to support your walls :) they stand up on their own Good luck

The wall color is by Behr - Restful (400F-4).

Donna - My husband just used regular white ceiling paint on the fireplace brick and left the grout as is, and it just happened to work out :) We also put the paint directly over the paneling - we were told to sand first, but it worked without doing that.

We discussed doing either a mirror over the fireplace, or mounting the TV there, so we're still torn on that. My worry would be - if we put the sofa parallel to the fireplace, what do I do with the wall/space where it currently is? Just some art, but leave the space empty? Love the idea of the slipper chairs, and brightening up the room with some throw pillows - it does seem a bit dark now. The drapery would work with the tv stand gone, too. Also, I never noticed but the tall lamp does really cut the fireplace - there is recessed lighting above the fireplace, so the lamp could be moved :)

Love the improvement...before you invest in more furniture, try moving the couch in front of the window and the tv stand across from it. if you can get an inexpensive sofa table, place that behind the couch with a lamp and and interesting piece next to it....pull in the color of the walls (maybe even a deeper shade) on toss pillows....the clock above the fireplace is much too small for the space...I have a mirror vertical over my fireplace and attached a huge wreath to it on a ribbon you can attach on the back of the mirror with duct tape, then place a large interesting object next to it I wouldn't try to fill across the entire mantel Put a couple of interesting things on the hearth...a large basket or whatever coordinates with the room..I would move the standing lamp out it doesn't fit in your scheme......You have started and now havethe fun of playing with accesories look on different pages of houzz for ideas..Good luck!!!

love marfenster's idea about moving the couch and TV. I would not put the TV above the fireplace. Also agree you need to work on the mantle.
But all that said, I think all the background finishes and choices you made are fabulous. You took a dingy room and simply transformed it with great choices. Love it.

I haven't read each and every comment, so if I repeat something already posted, sorry. I would float the sofa in front of the fireplace and make the fireplace the focal point. Also, if the TV doesn't fit over the fireplace, how about moving it to the other side where it wouldn't be angled. You have made this in to a very comfortable room.

I like the idea of drapes or plantation shutters on the window the sofa table and sofa in front of the window and across the tv on the wall flanked with some shelves - and art, you could paint the shelves the wall color .
