Glitter Paint my Brick Fireplace?

It's an 11'x 4' rectangle so it would be quite expensive to tile or stone it so I've decided to leave the brick (actually I believe it's concrete) fireplace as it is. I don't want to paint it over it with white paint but it does need to be freshened up. The grout is a peachy color, it looks dirty but it's really just the color.
I was thinking maybe I could just paint one layer of white paint to just to brighten the whole thing and then I noticed that BM has glitter paint, I wonder if that could give it a slight shimmer. I plan on going by BM to get sample paint tomorrow to see if that works but does anyone have other ideas for me?

I would just use regular paint and paint your fireplace one even color. I recently did the same for my brick fireplace since I hated my dark gray mortar. It turned out great and ours will too. The texture is enough of a feature, you don't need shimmer.

LOL - I should mention that I hoped glitter paint would get some attention to my design dilemma. I just happened to notice on their website that Benjamin Moore actually has glitter paint. It says it adds an iridescent sparkle. In the open kitchen beyond I plan on using white quartz countertops and maybe marble tile backsplash. The backsplash has a mix of polished marble and rough stone that has a sparkle to it.

Glitter paint does sound a bit odd, but I used something similar in my laundry room. I think it was a Ralph Lauren sand paint with crystals in it that added just a little glint of sparkle. The picture really doesn't do it justice. My paint color was a bit more green than the picture shows. I hope the glint of sparkle shows up. We have had lots of compliments on our laundry room.

I used the BM glitter paint at a clients and was not impressed, just go plain paint , you need to get rid of the colored groutlines. Then just add a" to die for" piece of art, done.

The Ralph Lauren sand and glitter paint is not easy to do correctly. Once you and the sand and crystals, it needs to be used within a short period of time or the crystals dissolve. The paint looks streaky when first applied. After the second coat it really adds a beautiful texture and the small glint of crystal. I think your fireplace would look fabulous with that added texture and a hint of whimsy. What color were you looking at painting.

I really want to keep it's original white. The first pic is a piece of the brick broken in half. The second pic is the outside after 60 years. This is actually a piece from the exterior of the house. I can't just pressure wash it like I will do the outside of the house. Sherman Williams hotline said to use Simple Green to clean. I scraped a little off the top layer of the grout. I'm going to try using a wire brush to scrape all the grout and then if the cleaning doesn't work maybe I could try white washing it like I saw in another discussion here.

If the grout is still a peachy color after you have washed it and scraped it, I would quit scraping it. Check to see if there is a stain you can use on the grout.

Go with a single color - white or even soft gray - glitter won't show properly with all the grout lines. You could add a modern mantle straight across or go with concrete for a cool look - some ideas below

This is an old thread but I'm curious if you ended up doing this. I have a similar dilemma and love the idea of a blue/green glitter grout or paint in the grout lines, with white bricks.
