HI -- This house has great curb appeal with it's style . "Ranchwood " by Benjamin Moore is a color that goes with almost all bricks . Looks great with charcoal accent color like for the shutters and roof trim and then a pretty color for the front door like a red or emerald green or any rich jewel tone .

Speaking of fern, this was my old house in a Benjamin Moore custom match of Glidden's Shaded Fern. I was going for a prairie style look while yours appears more traditional, but thought it'd help to see the color.

I quite like the example of the Greenlake Craftsman with the white trim. I actually would take the shutters off completely, as they're kind of dinky and there's not really room to do appropriately sized shutters. (They should be of a size that looks like you could actually put the shutters over the windows.) Crisp white trim and a black door, with black pots on each side of the lowest entry pad. I think a larger, lower hanging lantern style pendant light over the door in silver would be a stylish addition.

The two newish small trees are, in my experience, planted 1) too close to the walkway and 2) too close to the house. I'd move them farther out into the yard if you like. Smaller foundation plants on each side would green the area without blocking light into the lower level rooms. Perennials planted in front and behind the rugged stone area in the front would be dynamite. Nice house!

Do you have a more close up picture of the brick?

Right now, I'm leaning towards the grayish green colors. You could do black, or really dark green (almost black) door & shutters. You could also do a red door so it stands out.

I'm attaching a pic of my house so you can see what light gray with black shutters looks like. I'm not a fan of the color combination with the brick or shutters on my house, but the siding is vinyl so I'm not painting it & if I removed shutters, there would be holes in the siding. They're staying too. I do plan to paint the doors when the weather is warmer. The current colors in the running are charcoal gray, grayish green & dark turquoise.

Paint it a white or a light blue with darker shutters.

Mustard color with black trim, don't paint the brick it will never come out

I agree, take off the shutters. Definitely move the trees - way too close to the house. I like tan for most houses, but not with this brick. Needs a little more contrast, I think. Would you post close-up of brick?

We love the grayish green and black combination that Rachel H. suggested. However, we don't completely agree with removing the shutters. The shutters do not belong on the bay window, so they can be removed but the pairs on the other two windows should stay or be replaced with properly fitted shutters. Properly fitted shutters usually measure out to be half the size of the window, and since your home does appear to be traditional, we say a raised panel style would look best!

You could also accentuate your windows with window boxes, if you wouldn't mind keeping up with them!

Since your roof is gray, I would stay away from the tan family. I like tan & gray, just not together. You could do a medium gray siding with charcoal shutters to match the roof. You could still do the grayish green or you could lean a little bit bluish gray. Do you want something neutral or do you want something bright? If you like yellow, that last picture posted isn't bad.

I feel like I've been a little narrow minded with color suggestions, so here's some more options.

We are not exactly sure of the siding color used, and the shutters were a custom color chosen by the customer. It was a deep navy blue, even though in the picture it looks like black shutters.

For this house, I'd go more for a gray without the green hint and a bright white or color that pops. Any way you go, I think your off to a good start. (:

One note, you are pretty lucky to have the gray roof. We have the very same brick but with a similar lighter color on the shingles. Your options are much better. Do consider both in choosing.

I really like your brick up close & how it looks going up all around your front entry. I'm having a little brick envy now, because I like yours better than mine. :)

Keep the color of the mortar in mind too. If you do like the gray, it could look like the color scheme of the magnolia house above.

I would use a pure gray- on the lighter side, with a charcoal shutter. Purchase a larger shutter that is solid not with the louvers or something that is more current. I would not have the white trim on the house, with the bay window up high and the door and the lower level, it is confusing to the eye. If the house is painted one color, you still have the natural brick and the contrast of the shutters to add a statement to the front of the house. Someone on the site might be able to color this look for you. I am keep samples of colors I have used on foam core boards. I am pull some out and look at this outside and give you a few colors to try out.

The house is charming, it just needs an updated look for the exterior. Yes, move the smaller trees out into the yard away from the foundation of the house, but the large tree group, leave those tress, they look great. How about removing the screen door? The front door could be painted to match the shutters, the charcoal or mutted red, that would blend with the brick, I favor using the charcoal to match the shutters.

Whatever you do, get rid of those shudders, oh, I mean shutters! Especially the ones around the bay windows! If at all possible, re-trim the other upper windows with wider, thicker molding. Front door trim is classy, see if you can play off that. As for color, your choice - I'm getting sick of everyone suggesting grey, though grey-ish green, blue-ish grey are nice. Depends, I think, on which direction the front of the house faces. If south, (which it appears to be) then you have lots of latitude for darker shades, if north, perhaps lighter? Have fun!

I think The naturals work well with the brick face. Irish Sand, Buttermilk, Beige, Sandstone and accent with the dominant color of the brick face.

I agree about the gray colored roof, makes sense to stay with grays with that affecting the deicision. I will photograph a house in my sisters part of town that has the same brick and it wasa just painted with gray on the wood siding. It is easier for people to understand a look if there is an example . I will have to post this on Saturday.

Does anyone know what this type of house (with the upper floor extending over the lower) is called? Mine is a split level, but when I use that as a search, I don't get exteriors like this. I'm trying to search for photos of similar houses for ideas for my own. I posted a picture of mine further up.

HI -- What this house style is called depends on where it is -- some call it a "raised ranch" like Rachel H said but it is mostly referred to as" Bi -Level " in Canada . So either way is fine .

Thanks for the different terms. Here we call it a split level, but it helps to get other search words sometimes. I was really looking to see if there was a name for when they have an overhang-when the top floor extends about 2 feet over the lower floor. I did find a few examples. I don't know how to landscape around it & was hoping to see what other people have done.

Grays always work nice with bricks as well as a cream color. The two colors of gray that we attached are Sherwin-Williams Web Gray & Roycroft Pewter. The homes are from our pinterest exteriors board.
