It depends on the surface you are installing the floor on. But the preferred method to install the flooring on a floor joist and wood subfloor is NOT to glue it down but to nail the floor on top of a vapor barrier such as tar paper. We have an Australian Cypress floor and had no problems with chipping or splitting. We were warned that knot holes could pop out and so if any seemed suspect we didn't install that section of that piece of flooring. It's now three years later and we still love our floor.

Possible if a wide plank floor. Some manufacturers suggest glue + nail down w 4" or wider plank flooring.

How long would anyone advise letting Australian Cypress acclimate to its environment(my home)..before installing?
