Because of the size of the island, my inclination would be to go with a granite with considerable "movement" (i.e. pattern). It will definitely read as slab as opposed to tile. I attached some examples. You asked about input regarding lighting over the island...correct? How does the range vent?

I have attached a couple of more pictures. I looked at some slabs at Pentalonline this evening such as Kozmus satin, Raggio Di Sol and Titanium satin. I think your example is like Spectrum, which I like as well. The stove is a downdraft (doesn't really vent, I would love a 4 burner Viking but can't vent up). Lighting advice needed as much as granite choice.
