You would want to because it creates depth. Go to Home depot if you have one and look at their small paint books which a full of sample rooms. Each room has a base color, a trim color and an accent. You can add a couple of patterns into your fabrics and accessories. Just remember, your accent color needs to be used judiciously.

@terri, I read the original post as different colors on different walls. Obviously, trim is a different color....and accent for furnishings, as I pointed out. I fear this is more about indecision than design.

It indeed 3 colours on the walls. 3 main walls will be dulux field mouse, the far wall with the recess window will be dulux muddy puddle and the recessed wall will be natural hessian which im using throughout the house!

So the hessian becomes trim / accent color on far focus wall. Think you're good to go.

2 colors on the walls would be optimal, but this is your room so whatever makes you happy.

I really like having two colors in my rooms as I LOVE color. My only advice is to make sure the colors work with the trim, especially if you have wood trim, i.e. stained woodwork, not painted white. Green and blue work the best with stained woodwork IMHO.

I have no problem with it and with an open concept home would advise even more shades as long as the larger walls come from the same color strip card. Even the ceiling can be a 50% cut of the lightest shade on the card.

Here is the photo of the room. Sorry about the mess :( i had my ceiling done and cant wait to have it white again! I want the wall where the recess is to be muddy puddle (mid brown) whilst the recess would be hessian.

Painting the recess a different color will make it the focal point instead of the FP. Which to you want to be the center of interest? The windows themselves don't have that much going for them, so be sure that's where you want people's attention directed.
