A door that splits a wall and two rooms makes it hard to paint that wall TWO colors. You can paint the wall where the plants are, as that in the living room, but that is no help, as you want to paint the kitchen. The good thing is, it looks like the walls right now are neutral and hopefully will still work with both rooms being that color.

HI -- So you need a breaking point for the two colors ! Apply a strip of decorative door trim (about 4 to 6 inches wide) from the ceiling edge down to the floor just on the right of the light switch and paint that the color of your trims then paint your kitchen color to that breaking point . I hope you understand what I mean ??

Yes add some decorative trim. You could even add beaded board with narrow shelving or plate rack. The wall looks a bit barren even in one color. I would dress it up! But have the colors be very similar and of the same color fan. Otherwise it will be awkward to the eye I would think.
