We are in the planning stages of renovating the master bed/bath/closet...bath will be gutted and modified so we can "age-in-place", bedroom needs total overhaul including new flooring/furniture and the closet/dressing area needs adapting to better hold our clothes plus our dog. Lots of purchases just around the corner but nothing in hand just yet...too many decisions, I am mostly overwhelmed right now!

I found this chair for my niece. She just purchased her first home. We hunt weekly at Home Goods, Marshall's, Ross, and Tuesday Morning. The chair was $115 at Ross.

Just bought a fun spoon rest online for $14.95. I have all white dishes, modern decor and a quirky sense of humor, so was looking for something that fit all 3. I found a white, rectangular spoonrest with a black stenciled ornate spoon on it and the words "Rest in grease." I love it.

Found a Danish Reenskaug by Bramin teak rocking chair for $20 at a local thrift store. I liked the lines so I bought it, then found out they go for $1000 on eBay. I'm thinking it was a sound investment! I'll need to make new cushions, but it looks similar to this one:

Saw throw pillows in a gorgeous ikat fabic in a high end shop for $90 each. Spent a day searching for the same fabric on images.google, ordered a yard from an etsy shop for $14. Total cost for TWO after making them myself: $25.

I purchased a gorgeous vanilla colored twin canopy bed for my 2 year old granddaughter. It is an Ethan Allen brand and I paid only $169 at St. Vincent DePaul in their "better stuff " area of the store. I was thrilled! She will be too!

A few years ago I purchased a fairly large fabric ottoman that previously had been a part of a sofa set but was not taken by the buyer. It was at a model home furniture discount store and had not been used. I paid $30 for this sturdy piece. The color was totally wrong, so I finally purchased a one and one-fourth yards piece of 54" sage green pinwale corduroy upholstery fabric for $8.00 at a discount fabric store and four dark red wooden buttons. I wrapped the ottoman, stapled it underneath on the sides and ends, folded in the corners, and sewed on the buttons! Only a little trimming was necessary!

Our best deal was two display leather Ikea loveseats for $249 each or half price. They were in the As Is room at Ikea.

I just bought this amazing rug for my home office at Joss & Main...$200 with shipping and it's 8x10...we haven't broke ground yet but now I know what color the walls are going to be. The light blue on the walls with white shelves and my dark brown desk are going to be incredible!

Ordered and just got a pillow making template ruler, it has angled corners to allow you to take the dog-ear off the pillow without it being obvious. (I hate those big unstuffed corners)

My better half wants a set of bedpillows in 22", not cheaper 20" or 24" or 26", he has to pick the expensive size. Before the remodel had started I had priced buying half a dozen of them from a hotel supply place; and gotten fabric and sewn tuckin pillowcases (overlap flap backs instead of bag-cases) then things went sideways. Next funjob will be making pillow covers and making cores of batting and stuffing for them.

Two scores---a PAIR of Broyhill shelves (one has doors at base the other is all open; with lighting)---$120 the PAIR. These are the new sides of our media center---for now the old entertainment center has been cut down to dresser size and we took the top board off and laid it on top to cover cut ends. Large flat screen TV in between and ROOM to hold all of the THINGS---some you want to have seen and some--not so much! Extra wires and cables and DVD's? No! Native baskets and Inuit sculptures? Yes please!

And in the kitchen--the REASON we went to Re-Store but did not find something useful that trip--- a wooden work bench from Harbor Freight that has made the perfect long narrow kitchen island. We sanded off the factory finish and added several coats of poly; left off the bench vice at the end--small fingers!---and added a narrow strip of molding at the back edge to keep things from falling off. Next up---adding full extension drawer slides and a spice rack and paper towel holder! Has changed everything in there! For a whopping $137 plus a small can of poly and some sandpaper.

Had just been to our favorite Oriental rug shop where I found a rug for our dining room for $4300 after a 20% discount. Went online, found a comparable one being auctioned on eBay. By some miracle, we won the auction for an incredibly low price, then had a week to worry--had we been ripped off? Was it a piece of junk? Was it going to smell like camel urine? When it arrived, it was better in every respect--quality, design, color--than I ever could've hoped . We still can't believe our good luck and are now looking online for a complementary rug for our living room.

I found this beautiful light at Goodwill. Originally they were asking $80, then it was 1/2 off, and when I went to ring out, it was only $20! New in box! Love it

Jennifer...had similar experience with a fabulous handled urn that I had my eye on in a local department store. It was originally marked $100. Wasn't a necessity and visited store frequently during lunch hours at work so just kept a watch on it as they marked it half off, then more off that, finally they got it down to $19.95. I was excited as I took it to the register. Got there and it was only $12.00. I think of that every time I walk by it in my bedroom. Can't beat great pieces at a wonderful price!

Well I didnt buy for myself but two things I spotted I knew friends of mine were looking for. One a huge canvas of oriental blossom on gold and brown for only £10. They were £90 to buy originally. The other a huge mirror with silvery/gold frame in a charity shop for only £8. Originally £100. They were very pleased that I had spotted these items and now they hang in their homes.

I picked up this limited edition Arthur Secunda print with gold frame at a yard sale for $20. Not sure of actual value but has to be worth more the what I paid for it. Plus it is the center of attention with our other finds on the gallery style wall.

Last week I purchased a chest of drawers from the Salvation Army for $79.00. My plan was to paint it but after I brought it home I googled the brand and found it was a Mid-Century Modern piece designed by Kip Stewart for the Drexel Declaration line back in the 50's. I did not paint but just cleaned it and polished with some Danish Oil. This picture is not my piece but it is the exact same piece with original hardware and a pop up beveled mirror in the first drawer I love it and am thrilled with my find.

My daughter and her boyfriend bought a mid-century modern home in Huntington, NY (Long Island). The dining room had a light fixture they hated and planned to throw away. Thank God I arrived in time to rescue it. I knew my son and his wife would love it, so I bought my daughter a new chandelier and shipped the other one to my son. Come to find out, the "old" one is a signed vintage Venini Sputnik chandelier with 49 hand blown Murano glass triangular shaped rods. An identical chandelier sold on 1st Dibs for almost $10,000! Score...

I got this duvet, pillows and sheets for $75 total from Home Goods! Not to mention the 2-year old full sized bed, frame, and tempurpedic mattress pad were free from a friend!

We live a mile from HomeGoods...my home away from home...great stuff...great prices. I make a point of going a couple times a week. Don't want to miss something good!

I bought a bunch of great rugs online. The one in the picture is a Surya rug that I got on Overstock.com. I also got beautiful rugs from Cost Plus and Tuesday Morning online. It was a little nerve-wracking to make such a big purchase of something I hadn't seen "in person," but I love each rug and am amazed at the quality for the price.

Got this Arts & Crafts style armoire from a friend who was moving to Singapore many years ago. I love it. Don't remember what I paid for it, but it was reasonable. The dresser is part of a deco set I got on Craigslist. I think I paid around $200 for the dresser, nightstand, and a vanity with a circular mirror.

I can't stop posting my finds! The lamp is from Tuesday Morning. I inherited the chest of drawers and tray from my Aunt. And the vase is from a local antique store.

I recently bought this wooden cupboard off ebay for $70. I have seen others for sale up to $300 so I was glad I got a bargain.

Not long ago I found these blue/white Emile Henry baking dishes at HomeGoods for amazing prices...some even on their clearance aisle.

Why oh WHY do we not have a HomeGoods or a ROSS or--well--pretty much ANYPLACE other than WM and Tarjay here????? Sigh.

halleycomet, no TJ Maxx or Marshall's either? TJ Maxx owns HomeGoods and Marshall's. We're spoiled here with all 3 of them a few miles from each other, including a Ross. HomeGoods is by far the best...will keep my fingers crossed for you! I'm not much of a Walmart fan but am at Target all the time.

WE DO have TJ Maxx---did not know they were the same! Never really seem to find much kitchen stuff at ours tho--do like their over sized re-use bags and some paper goods. And Marshalls is an hour and a half one way away! Will have to keep in mind when we are in that area---went exactly once! LOL!

I bought a gorgeous white pillow embroidered with shades of navy flowers. It will go perfectly in my living room on my white couches and coordinate with my Ikat drapes in shades of navy and white. I purchased the pillow at Bouclair and the drapes at Home sense.

halleycomet, good that you at least have TJ Maxx. They do carry some of the same items, but nowhere near as much as HG. One thing I've learned about HG, TJM and Marshall's...if I see something I like, I get it. I can always return it if I change my mind. There have been waaaaay too many times when I left something behind...only to go back and discover it was gone.

I had to think about this one,,I got 6 Johannes Andersen chairs. I had a post about this and I updated it with a photo of the new chairs (if anyone wants to see them). The price was good. If I were to get new ones (these were re-upholstered), it would have been 3 times the cost

Yes you always have to snap up what you see WHEN you see it no matter where you are! I have had that happen too. I even "lost" a pair of boots I saw at a thrift shop---and we were the LAST people out the door and I was there when they unlocked the doors the next AM and--the boots were GONE! Probably one of the workers bought them but--shoulda coulda woulda! Now unless things are way out of reach I grab 'em. I have had some "frogs" but way more "Princes"!!!!

The days when you could count on a place having the same things for a good long while--gone! My husband laughed at me for buying a few dozen tumblers at IKEA--I live HOURS away from ANY IKEA!!!!--but we have used and are still using them and I still have a box in the basement. And I love them!

Now if I could only find the cobalt blue bowls Target had the very first time I went there--I got all they had. A whole 4 bowls! I LOVE the color--I LOVE that they nest--I love the way they fit my hands---tonight my son was unloading the dishwasher and said--A bowl broke in here! My lil heart just SANK. Fortunately it was a dollar store glass one that broke. And four bowls for 7 people----plus any company---well don't count on anything MATCHING here!

OMG...I've been there with that heart sinking feeling when something breaks!

The attached photo is my most recent purchase from HomeGoods. Mind you, I DO NOT need more Le Creuset but couldn't pass it up for the price.

I like Le Creuset. It's so nice to cook in them. The only thing you need to be aware of is that the light ones are made in China. You need to look at the tag before buying.

I have Le Creuset from 35+ years ago and still going strong! I don't like the newer stuff so I snap up what I can find of the old at sales etc. IF it is REALLY cruddy--oven cleaner. I got a whole SET inc the big stew pot the small stew pot and several handled pieces and lids for $10 at a sale--the color was grey which didn't thrill me but my son was HAPPY to have them!

I have two of the large stew pots--one I got for 50 CENTS at a fund raiser sale as it was deemed too cruddy to sell. It has raised "grill" lines on the bottom--I have never seen another one like it. All of the ones I have kept are flame. My son has an odd assortment of whatever mom found at sales over the years--I had a cedar chest I filled with this stuff for my kids.

Just be aware---if you drop them--they can crack. Don't ask how I know this! And yes the Co did replace the pot. I recently picked up a vintage classic Dansk red enamel rectangular baker that I thought I might sell. My daughter didn't realize that and used it and we liked it a lot and it fits in my convection oven when little ELSE does apparently! Guess we are keeping that! The LAST thing I need is to go buy MORE cookware!!!!! But few things I own FIT in that oven! Excuses, excuses!!!!!!

The cleaning instructions that came with my first Le Creuset set in 1977 said to soak the light interiors in a mild water/bleach solution. That's worked well for me all these years. I've also used Bar Keepers Friend occasionally.

One of the pieces in my first set of Le Creuset from 1977 was a very large lasagna/roasting pan...the one with the hinged metal handles. I got rid of it because it was heavy when empty, but was crazy heavy when filled with lasagna.
