Need Interior designer for space planning

I am looking for help in space planning and redesigning the first floor in my town house which includes the entry hall, family room, dining room and part of the kitchen. The goal is to create space for comfort and efficiency with a contemporary/transitional style. I am considering the following enhancements - flooring, window treatments, interior paint, accents, furniture and lighting.I have a limited budget to spend on interior designer services.
I am open to work with a talented graduate or somebody who is looking for internship to enhance their resume and get great references from a very happy customer. I am located in East Brunswick, NJ.
The problem that I had before with designers - they can't tell me the cost for designing the elevation, the detailed plan, ahead of time.

Thank you for your offer. Yes, I have a contractor who will do the job once the plan is finalized. Can you please tell me how do you see us communicating and discussing options. And what are the steps?

Irene, this project is a great design story just waiting to happen! I would love to provide you with professionally drafted plans and elevations at a reasonable price, and have no problem working over long distances. We can discuss details via message or email -- but I have attached some images of a great 1st-Floor Renovation Floor Plan I completed with a homeowner and contractor in 2012.

The first image is an existing conditions report from the contractor.
The second image is of my proposed changes to the floor plan.

    Can't wait to discuss! ~Alexia

Thanks to modern technology this has become much easier. We can email, chat, text and phone back and forth. I have several drafting programs to help you visualize what I am thinking but to make sure that is what your thoughts are as well. To begin with I spend time asking many questions to lay out what your ideas, wants and needs are. I will also collect information about the others in your household. Then we begin the design phase. This is where much of the communication would be doneh when you have time to chat and discuss the options of products, likes and modifications. Once you approve the aspects of the design- it is demo and remodel time. This is when the fun begins. The transformation begins and evolves in front of your eye. Before you know, you have your perfect space!

(or would it not be helpful to have two bid for this project?)

I am waiting for my husband to measure the area and I will get back to you on square footage. And you are right - I would like to have 2 bids.

Is it possible to post a few pictures of the current space? This will give me a visual for what you have to work with and make it easier to communicate layout for your wish list: flooring, window treatments, interior paint, accents, furniture and lighting.

Hello Again! So, in bullet points, this is what I'm thinking:

    - The issue with providing a price in advance is not in estimating, but with defining the SCOPE of a project. So I can provide you a price (right now) for this project that will not change. However, in order for the price to not change, the project scope must not change.

    - I will describe to you the project scope that I'm proposing:
+Provide client with welcome materials and questionnaires.
+Analyze these materials and create a custom Houzz album showing design conventions, styles, and strategies that meet your needs and desires for your space. Discuss this ideabook with you to hone and polish it.
+Next, Provide a CAD drafted floorplan of your (a) existing conditions, (b) proposed floorplan, and (c) four elevations. These plans will have general placeholders for furniture, be drawn to show finish details such as flooring and wall conditions, but will not yet show accessories . I will discuss these construction documents with you in order to inform ONE (1) revision of the floorplan. It is during these discussions that we will make final choices for furniture, lighting, window treatment styles, finishes, paint colors -- everything!
+Provide one (1) final floorplan, Four (4) elevations and three (3) detail drawings if necessary. This final draft will include (a) ALL of the pieces to complete the final project drawn in (b) an e-sourcebook with links to these products, (c) a finish schedule for your contractor to work from.

When you have this final bullet point delivered from me, that is the extent of the work that I can provide. If you'd like to extend my involvement, then we can extend the financial investment.

I can provide you the final price for this scope of work via private message. Please message me, I cannot message you first with Houzz.

    Thanks for your consideration!
