I have quartz counters which also etch from acid. I just use a special stone cleaner on it and wipe up acidic spills right away. I have found dried orange juice on it before and it was fine. After 2 years it still looks new. Don't use bleach to clean it though.

Quartz has a more consistent design throughout compared with granite.

JRH76-do you have quartzite a natural material or quartz, manmade? If it is quartzite you make it easier for me to go with that material. What cleaner do you use?

I have a natural quartzite countertop in a dark color (Capolavoro quartzite). I've had it for a year and I don't think you could hurt it or mark it in any way no matter what you tried:) I had my polished slab leathered prior to fabrication.

If you want a light color, I think Calacatta Macaubas quartzite is very nice looking.

Ann, how do you the leathered, for cleaning?

I just use an "all purpose" spray cleaner I buy at Whole Foods just so I don't have to worry about harsh chemicals, but I've sprayed 409 on it before (just because I was talking and spacing out) and no problem at all. Sometimes, I'll turn a clean pan upside down to dry on the counter and when I lift it the next morning, there might be a darker ring where the pan was. I'll just wipe off that spot and dry it - the ring will still be there - but two hours later it just mysteriously and completely disappears. If you google quartzite, you'll see lots of similar stories. It's amazing how "bullet proof" this countertop is. I think it will be completely unblemished in 100 years - seriously! Oh, and I love the leathered finish - it's so pretty! The installers put some sealer on it and said it will never need anything again - from living with it, I can see that's true.
