What kind of hardwood is this? What color?

The grain suggests it's definitely red oak with a darker stain, but I'm not sure of the width. It's over the standard with of 2 1/4", most likely a select grade that's 3 1/4" or even wider. I'm guessing the finish was applied at the site (not prefinished), that's the best way to get the grain to pop like that and take a darker stain.
