We have an in-ground salt water pool, which requires very little maintenance. The water itself feels therapeutic and since salt water doesn't freeze, the water never needs draining for the winter. The pool was built by National Pools of Virginia.

Inside pool. Only inside. In MD and DC they are a pain most of the year. I used to sell RE and pools were a liability. Home with inside pools faired better. I would love to have an inside pool enclosed with a glass wall or huge french doors to some private outside.

I love a pool. After having several in different homes I have owned and having had one built a year ago with beach entry, saltwater and solar it was the least expensive to maintain about one fifth that of a chlorinated pool. Recommending if you have a chlorinated pool spend the few thousand to convert to saltwater. When you get out of saltwater pool your skin is soft all callous disappear, and most of all you and your bathing clothes do not smell of bleach. Clothes last longer and retain there colors. Yes a pool requires attention with sweeping, emptying strainer basket and fore that trade off you have some time to spend giving thanks for all the blessings that have come your way.

Been there. Yes, they are nice but do require additional upkeep. The older I get, the less maintenance I want. I have enough problems maintaining myself!

We live in Ontario Canada so you can really only use a pool 4-5 months of the year and you have to have a heater. Having said that though, I love having a pool. We put one in 4 years ago and I don't regret it in the least. I'm in it more than the kids. Maybe it comes from living in the tropics for a few years but I love water. Going by the view from Google Earth, there are lots of swimming pools in my neighbourhood.

we have 8 ponds, the one in our front yard, pictured here, serves for a swimming pond for the dogs. they'll swim just about any time of the year too….! if it's still liquid, they'll be in it.

We had a pool, and had it taken out a couple of years ago. It came with the house and was only visible from the guest bathroom. You couldn't swim more than a few strokes without bumping into something, and it was going to need a bunch of repair$$$ soon, and I hated all the chemicals it needed. So now I have more garden space.
I do love the look of a well placed pool and still lust after a lap pool. Maybe with the next house.

I want a pool so much! But the reality is I'm not willing to give up the room in my backyard that a pool requires and I know we would get tired of the maintenance. We are also well aware of the liability that goes with having a pool - even when it is fenced.

I have a nice pool, but now I have two grand babies and a service dog. We are moving and I am so worried about something happening to our babies We aren moving.

We plan on getting an endless pool (exercise pool) so the cost won't be too much and the maintenance and heating won't be too expensive.

Pool in your yard, awesome!!!!!!!! Beautiful luxurious pools add beauty to your home and make you feel special, but it needs special care, so having pool is good, but proper maintenance can be problematic for homeowners.

It is my lifelong dream to have my own pool. My in-laws had one and I enjoyed cleaning it! We have a neighborhood pool which is great but it's only open for 3 short months. Here in MD we could swim May through September most years. The privacy is what I long for.

I wouldn't be without a pool despite the maintenance and cost both of which are directly related to the size of the pool. My current pool is the smallest yet at 12x24 but it is really easy to care for. It helps that it is salt water and has an automatic cover that glides out from under the terrace. It is located away from the house in a wooded garden setting although it gets sun all afternoon which is essential. Pools located near the house are great for active families and for entertaining.

We bought our house in Cape Town 2 almost years ago with our first pool. We were dreading the maintenance, but had a cover installed and 1) seldom need to top up the salt, 2) seldom need to top up the pool, and 3) seldom actually clean "bits" out of the pool because it's all caught on the cover. I don't think we'd live without one now - this past weekend saw 44 deg C (111 F)! Nothing nicer than sipping on a cold glass of white wine under the umbrella in the pool.

Grew up with a pool in the yard and would love one for the fact that swimming is great exercise, but I now live in Maine and it's a ridiculous expense for the amount of time you can use it.

the pool is being built. I've wanted one forever. we live in HOT Texas & this will be the first Summer that when it's 100 plus, I can be outside & enjoy it. we're hanging shade sails overhead so we have shade, it's a saltwater pool, and has an automatic cover. grateful for such a blessing.

We can't fit a pool in our yard so we are always looking for a home where a pool can be built. Tough search as we love our home. It will happen someday. I am a Rescue Diver, but cannot dive anymore, due to Melanoma. This leaves me without ever diving again, or a pool to swim in. I am cancer free & miss swimming so much.

No! They are a lot of work and expense to maintain, even more so if they are heated. Plus higher insurance costs, because if someone drowns in your pool you have to cover your butt from lawsuits. Pumps break and surfaces need to replaced now and then. So, I guess if I had a lot of money just laying around, maybe, but then I have kids, so I would worry about them around it.

I'd rather live in a community/subdivision with a really nice pool that I can visit and someone else can maintain while I pay small HOA dues.

Converted pool from chlorine to salt water and installed an automatic cover....love the pool a lot more now...just need to find the hot pool guy to clean it :)

We put our pool in 8-9 years ago and love it! It's wonderful for family time, simple get togethers with the neighbors, and kids parties. I also love that our kids friends all want to be at our house - I want to know them - and know them well.
Hubby does the maintenance and some repairs / replacements when needed and we have a pool guy that comes once a week to balance the chemicals. My husband could easily do it (he did for his family pool growing up), but when the pool was put in, the contractor recommended the pool guy to get the chemicals balanced and we kept them. Now the son has taken over the business and they have been great.

Always had one growing up and when my kids were growing up. A lot of work but worth it! Worried constantly about accidents. But still worth it. Now kids are on there own. Smaller home and can't figure out if I miss the pool or just all the great times.

Heck nope. Maintenance nightmare and you can only use them 3 months a year in Maine.

We have a pool heater so it's good here from May through October. My husband devised a way to turn the pool into a skating rink in winter and that's where all our kids learned to skate! Two figure skaters and two travel hockey players out of the bunch. Ironically no competitive swimmers :-)

100% for pools...we are in California, so our seasons allow for a little more time in the sunshine! Love our pool. We live in Quebec and pool season is short but I would not live without it. So relaxing after a work day. With the salt water system the maintenance is to a minimum. Love it, love it, love it!!!

When I was younger, I would have loved to have a pool! But now that I'm 60, I do not want to have to take care of one.

This is our first year having one. It's a little bitty one though. 12 foot sunken above ground with a deck. No idea yet, we'll see by summer's end what I think of it.

we have a pool and love it. It's a salt water so I rarely ever have to put anything in it so I safe alot. I also have gas heater. I love working or cleaning pool or I just hook up vacuum and it does all the work.

We have one on the farm, it is covered and locked and has a large shower and bathroom connected to it also for convenience and a small storage area to store water floats etc..It has sea creature designs on the floor of the pool and hanging plants and deck chairs around it. I prefer it there, I definitely don't want one at home as lots of toddlers are always around.

Pools may depend on the context of where you live. When we lived in Florida for 5 years we had a lovely pool - all enclosed with a screened covering, making for a lovely and bug-free outdoor "room" attached to and opening into the house. The pool was self cleaning and had a little water fall - heated by solar panels on the roof. It was heavenly and very easy to maintain. Now we live in the forests of Oregon - a pool here would be labor intensive and not usable year-round unless actually enclosed in a building of some type. Not practical, so no longer desirable.

A pool was great when the kids were growing up (here in SCAL). Now that they are in grad school and no longer living at home, it is a bit of a pain... I'm SO GLAD we had it for when the kids were growing up!
