why put a lamp near a sink--electrical issues, esp. w/wet hands & children's bathroom?

    I agree, not a very child-safe design. By code all outlets around sinks must be of GFI type, a faster circuit breaker so if there's a shock, it's only of very short duration.

    If you look closely the outlet is a GFI - so safety isn't an issue...
    ...and this is clearly staged for the photograph - I'm sincerely doubt this is the way the bathroom is kept for daily use.

    A lamp is no different than a blow dryer plugged in a bathroom. With GFCI and Arc fault breakers I think the bathroom is safe.
