It's very neat; the water is captured by the rings and basically clings to them as it runs down. You can make them go all the way to the ground, or put a pot with rocks, no rocks, or whatever decorative item you like to catch the rain water. Sometimes I put a watering pail with a spout underneath, and then use the captured water in the yard. They are very cool and DO work! Thanks for asking.
