Gosh. I was actually considering a color called Sparkling Sage by Valspar but was afraid it would make the room too dark. Also thinking of a soft butter yellow but yellow can be so hard to nail the right shade.

I mean't to include this photo in my original post. This is a cabinet my son built at his cabinet shop for me. I am including this photo as this is the color I think I want him to use for the entertainment piece in the living room. What do you think?

I would say that would be a beautiful color for your entertainment unit. It blends very nicely with the colors in your room.

I think with that color of cabinetry I would lean towards the sage greens as well and not towards any yellows.

Gorgeous red curtain fabric. I'd take a curtain and a pillow from the plaid chair down to the paint store to pick up a dozen or two chips. Look at the "antique linen" colors which are a richer cream with yellow tones. A silver that relates to the lightest blue-gray color of the blueberries in the print could be a good color. It looks like you already have butter yellow walls.

I can;t tell what color your carpet is. If you have an extra carpet scrap, throw it in the car, too, when you head to the paint store. It's often useful to have a paint chip the exact color of your carpet or other immobile object when traipsing back and forth to the paint store, so pick up some chips that look like your carpet. Circle the right one(s) and ditch the others.

Another way to change a room without causing coronaries is to add lighting. A new lamp in a corner might work. Or swap a living room lamp with a lamp from elsewhere in the house. Try LEDs instead of CFLs, too, for good quality light.

I actually have that fabric, it will look nice with the right shade of light green. It also goes nicely with the camel/ivory that is found in some of the flowers. I think your room will look really pretty!

I'm excited for your new floors and it sounds like you are well on your way to finding a good wall color. Please do narrow it down to a few and paint large samples on your walls (or poster board) before making you final selection. Observe the colors throughout the day. It's amazing how light can alter a color.

If you can, please post a few more photos of the room to give us perspective of the space. I can't tell where the main entrance to the room is. A better furniture arrangement may be possible for you.

Good morning. I am so appreciative for all of the comments. I have not painted. At first I thought I wanted Valspars sparkling Sage but it is coming off too minty. My room gets very little light because of my porches. I am now looking at BM quiet moments and Sage tint. So bummed out, I might should go with white after having had such strong colors. My foyer that leads into this room is red but needs a change.
If I were to decide on white, that would be another quest because there are a be zillion whites. HELP!

I like foamcore boards for painting large samples.

You might get the rooms primed. Easier to make up your mind when the rooms are blank white ready for a new palette.

I think the foyer looks gorgeous that color. It's very rich and ties in so nicely with your drapes. I know you probably want a change but I think it looks beautiful. I would wait until you paint the livingroom and then see if you still want to change the red.

Here are a couple of more angles of living area.

I'm thinking of moving this Karastan from the sun porch into living area after I put down wood but would need a companion rug for the area where I have a game table. I also love the look of seagrass matting that I had years ago but have not seen for years. The seagrass that I loved came in 12 inch squares stitched together and it could be bought in 9 x any length. It is not like the bound kind that is on the market now. I saw the old fashioned kind at World Market however the largest size they carry is 8 x10 . Please have a look and see what you think. How would it look to use the Karastan in one area and seagrass at other end of room?

In rooms with little light, as you know, it is always a good idea to brighten the space. We would recommend staying away from white. It won't help to brighten the room much. We would recommend a full spectrum paint (one that uses color pigments instead of shades of black to enrich the color). Try a Chartreuse or Peridot. You can easily do that on your walls and allow your bolder colored sofa and window treatments to be your color pops. Benjamin Moore has a complete list of their full spectrum paint colors. Also, try using an eggshell finish rather than a matte finish. You will have more of a sheen to bounce off the natural light. For a rug selection, we would go with a more traditional style that includes some red, but doesn't battle with what you have.

It is so hard to judge colors from a monitor.

I can give you a suggestion for a West light room: BM Valley Forge Tan will deal with that yellowy, hot sun that changes paint colors to something totally foreign to you.

Judy, I don't know where my compass was when I posted my original request. The room is actually SE, mostly East. I get morning sun but not much.

I think your LR/DR is beautiful with the warm color you already have on it. For changing things up, I'd replace the entertainment center with a custom credenza made by your son, and then slip cover some chairs and rearrange things. Perhaps your son could make you a new mantel to change the look a bit.

You are reading my mind about a new mantle . The one I have is way to rustic. My son would probably have a stroke if I asked him for more mama do's. He is currently doing a vanity for a bathroom but I have to be squeezed in between his other work as his company is the largest cabinet company in our area. You should see some of his custom work. It is beautiful.

Offer to be his "showcase house" and give him a bonus for each project he completes! lol

rosybloom, as I mentioned I also have this fabric (I am not currently using it but do love it). I had a bold color scheme and have since gone with lighter colors. I now have kilim beige in my living room and just brought out a pillow and it matches really nicely. It would also go nice with the red hall and your new wood floors.

Is that the Kilim beige on the wall? I thought it was a green and I was going to ask you what color it was. Funny, I just got home from Sherwin Williams and Kilim Beige was a color I picked up along with a color called Ancient Marble which is in the green family. I hate picking out paint because my light does a number on the colors. Your color choice looks fantastic. I have had this fabric for years but never tire of the boldness. Love,love jewel colors but I go in other people's home and love the soft muted colors as well... Too bad I can't have it all.

It is Killim beige, I can see on my monitor it does look a little green. It is a color that stays true in all kinds of light too. This could give you a nice mix of soft and bold. I also love this fabric, I plan to keep the pillows even though I have gone to a neutral color scheme. I like to switch out the pillows. I also have SW Ivoire that is a nice light color with a hint of gold I think that would also go nicely with the fabric.

The silver sage on the walls will be perfect. Definitely have your son paint the entertainment cabinet and you might consider having him milk washing the fireplace with the same color.

I tried silvery sage but it came off to minty. Do you know a specific color you think will stay true in low light situation?
