We are considering adding a second level to our new construction plans (we are dyi). We are wanting to add a bonus room style room over the main area of the home and leave it open like a loft. Our thought is that you will be able to see the landing and up into the room from the foyer. Then there would be a room on each end. I am attaching a rough drawing, no dimensions. I would like your opinions and any pictures or ideas similar that you may have would be helpful.
