Hi! Sorry so late to see this. I am homeowner and this is painted brick. The house was built in 1929. The brick only needs to be painted once every 12-15 years!

Thank you Kim. That stimulates another question…..I may have to put up on Houzz. Question: 12-15 years is amazing to someone who never lived in a painted brick home. I love the look of the painted brick …..but was sure it required more painting/maintenance than that!!! Other than paint every 12-15y, anything else? I'd love to learn the process that gives those results. Is that normal? Thank you again, Kim. Nice home.

Since we have own our home for 17 years we painted the brick when we moved in and then about 1.5 years ago. So much depends on the climate your home is in and how severe the winters are. We live in Austin, TX where we have a pretty mild climate. We have no maintenance to our brick. We have a wall that is painted white brick around the property in the back that needs to be painted a bit more because the sprinkler system hits it and it is a different type of brick (it was added after the home was built by a previous owner). I really do not know why the home stays so "fresh looking". I guess we are lucky. Power washing will only promote paint peeling. There are several homes in my neighborhood with painted brick from the early 20's to 30's and they never seem to get painted much either. @ Kim Hood: actually your last comments are very helpful and logical to consider. I put a discussion up and the comments I've gotten have led me to believe people think it makes no sense to paint "new construction brick". I understand and likely will not. But, I've also asked someone to let me know if there is a "white brick" out there that offers some texture, that I can use in the new construction……I live in S. IN. Our site is surrounded by trees but not too close to the home. We definitely have the 4 seasons and moderate to heavy moisture in the air (because of the trees). Thanks!

I do want to add a few things about our painted brick home for those who have asked about maintenance,et. First the bricks on our home are a more natural color brick ---not the red brick that is most popular. They have a soft finish on them not rough. Does that make sense. Since my home is very old I do not know the history of the "painted brick". I highly doubt that it was built to be painted white but it has been this was for at least 40 years (we are only the 3rd owner and it was built in 1929. We do a yearly maintenance on the outside of the house that entails having our painter do a light power wash of areas that have stains, bird droppings, etc. We also have him touch up any areas that need it. It is not expensive to have done once a year and I think it has enabled our paint job(s) to last longer.

Hi Kim, love your house and hope you see this message. How has the paint held up over the last few years, and are you satisfied with the flat sheen? My wife and I are going to paint our brick house that was built in the 60's with SW Pure White as well, but we haven't decided on flat or satin sheen yet. Most people have said that flat won't hold up well over time, but we are concerned that satin might be a little to shiny. Are you happy with the flat, or do you think satin would be a better choice? Thanks!
