You definitely need an area rug in this room. You could go with something neutral so it doesn't compete with the plaid in the couches. A stand up plant in one of the corners would help the room also. I would do some drapes with wooden rods and finials on the windows. Maybe add a bookcase to the back wall or a corner hutch! Good Luck

Could the loveseat make an L with the couch and then move the chair where the loveseat is?

OR....part of me would love to see the console under the art and then the couch where the console is. Float the love seat across from the couch then and we can work the chair into a corner.

Thanks Abbyjean. I have no problem moving the furniture around. My biggest issue is with accents and making the room look finished. There is just too much brown. It's just so boring. Any thoughts? The only other color is the navy line in the plaid of the sofa and loveseat.

The largest piece (couch) should be at first glance, with beautiful, smooth and comfortable cushions, the colors of xadres.Cortinas delicate, smooth rug and many pictures, art works will leave your comfortable room. I agree with abbyjean, bookcase may best fill your space.

Navy accents would be nice in this room and would cut down on the yellow, too. Maybe try switching out the yellow throw on the back of the couch with the one on the chair.
Adding pillows will disguise some of the plaid and also make it feel more comfy.....work with the navy here, too, and then the cream/white shade.
What about panels on the windows, too?

You might not need a custom slipcover. Check out surefit.net. They have so many slipcover options. (I'm not associated with them at all. Just a happy customer. I have a really ugly wing chair from my grandma and I bought a slipcover to cover it up and make it usable.)

What about a fun shag carpet to soften the room, too?

I say keep the arrangement of furniture, move picture above dark brown furniture to create a single focal point. Accent with a color from the picture like teal in the same value as the yellow. Darken the light coffee table to pop and contrast the light furniture. Paint or restrain it darker. Even a medium to dark teal as in picture. I'd ignore the navy and think of the yellow as neutral. Just repeat your accent color or two. I think you can use a larger print here. Maybe medium aqua/teal with a poppy or reddish pink. A bird cage painted a warm accent color to pick up the print on a pillow.

I like a full curtain in this room to.

I think it will add height and drama.

Add color to your walls, lamp shades and a rug. Blues would look good with the plaid yellow. The larger the room the darker shade of blue.

Can you paint the fabric?
