It might work to have the television over the mantle with this layout. You actually see that quite frequently. (It's possible there is no TV in this room. I know...you would ALWAYS find one in my house too!)

In my opinion verticality of the space does not lend itself to mounting the tv above the fireplace. With the shown layout I would suggest having the TV opposite the couch You could locate the love seat across from the fire place and if the room feels unbalanced you could have a small chair on either side of the TV. Hi jmdwrd. If you look at the remainder of the photos, there is a wall unit with the television opposite the fireplace. We have a family room that is very similar in layout and dimension. However, we have our television over the fireplace as we do not have that panel that's in this photo. We have a paladium window on the upper level as well as windows on either side. Love the layout of this room! It's given me some ideas for ours. Good luck!
