I was wondering if you had considered painting the wall to provide a bit more contrast between the sofa and the wall. Just a thought.

Thank you all, love the suggestions a lot. I forgot to add pix of the full room. So I want to go in the direction of adding some blues. My pillows have greens and yellows. I love the idea of adding pops of hot pink. Maybe on the leather chairs. I already started buying accessories but then stopped as I wanted to figured accent color first. Need to make fireplace pop too

So I took Warner Decorate painting suggestion and cropped a pic of the painting to see what it looks like.
1) do you think the painting goes?
2) What sort of colors should I pull out from the art for accessories?
3) should I keep the top niche of the wall neutral or start adding color there?

Good size and heft to picture, but would need to add teal / aqua pillows to your couch.

I think the aqua could be really fun for pops of color in throw cushions. Or a bright sunny yellow. You could add either of these to your existing cushions. I'd also add some (dimmable) floor or table lamps to warm up the space. How about a coffee table - I've had good luck finding inexpensive dark wood pieces secondhand and brightening up by painting with chalk paint. I would suggest a round cushion coffee table type ottoman to break up that print in rug a little and ground the room. Select contrast color perhaps

Make a statement with a bold coffee table. Then add art and pillows to pull it together. Notice the neutral furniture in one of these photos, but the room pops due to the accessories.

The coffee table does not need to be expensive - just unique for the room.

I would add aqua accents, pillows, brown leather ottoman, a accent lamp and floor lamp. Does that print have a frame? A nice chunky frame would look nice. How about painting the walls a gray/teal that would help everything pop and pull together?

I love how this room works with the neutral and aqua in the room.

Like the first choice of the painting. Good color , size and movement.
Add the aqua and another strong color from picture with pillows.
Get a unique large scale round or oval coffee table or two upholstered square ottomans. That is where the accent color can be used once again either with the fabric on the ottomans....or large accessories on the coffee table.
I would paint the back wall only of the recessed area. If using an aqua...SW Rainwashed is a good blue/green color.Try not to add items to this inset unless they are very large scale. I would make sure I had textured items....and not many. Keep the items in odd numbers...two on the left side...one on the right side....center area with open space.

Just looked at the fireplace area again and thought you might consider using a group of large scale mercury glass candle holders. You can use the battery operated candles inside for safety.

Here I am again....this will be my last suggestion. You might move the sofa and everything over a few inches toward the fireplace. Just a few inches can make an area feel more inviting. Now I promise I am finished.

Hi ,if I can suggest ,move the carpet so it's parallel with the fireplace ,switch the chairs with the large sofa ,and try tall plant next to the fireplace(left side).also I would remove the fan a hang nice chandelier :)I know you need help with colours,but thought this would help too:)

I like this coffee table for you. It echos the scroll feeling in the rug, pillows, and shows off the rug while the dark metal grounds it too. Adds that extra layer for a spot of blue on lower level.

You need art. Art improves everything. Get something not too busy but with saturated color ( this turquoise painting is a good example). Make certain you buy something with scale. This will pull the space together.

You could try an accent color on the wall. I would keep the pillows, but add to them with a bold color like red. A coffee table or ottoman and maybe a side chair in a bold print or bright color. If you do an accent on the wall, pick up from whatever color you use for accessories. Be brave.

Another way of adding depth and interest to your room besides using color is by adding texture - using metallics, mirrors, rattan. I think introducing vibrant, bold colors is a bid harsh for your existing furnishings.

Two cents more........................! Art is not necessarily the place to begin. Lacquered furniture like a coffee table in a well chosen color will give you some punch where the room needs it.
Bungalow 5 makes a good looking assortment of pieces. Some options include matt or gloss lacquer, lacquered grasscloth or linen and nail head trims. You could go bold with Navy or Red or restrained with a White or Greige. Add a more important looking lamp and a bit taller. Group smaller artwork and a few reflective items like small mirrors, glossy plates or trays over the sofa.

Of art, so I moved on to the coffee for now. At first I wanted an ottomon table, however I feel the mirror table would dress up the room a little without being overly formal. This is the only "sitting area" in the house so I don't want it too casual

Interesting piece would work. You should decide on an accent color and start bringing some of that into the room. Table lamps, pillows, bowls, etc. still looking a bit bland.

I think drnancy nailed it. By bringing in texture with woods, metals, fabrics of pillows I think you'll get a great look. I also have always preferred a group of three art pieces over a sofa. Much more interesting than one large piece.

Dark chairs look good. You can paint the niche over the fireplace in an accent color. Might try adding a sofa table with buffet lamps. Like the plant shelf display, could add a few more pieces with color or some greenery.

The painting runs horizontal , but I played around with it and also like it vertical. Will show both ways in pix.
If it works I'll start pulling colors from that ( pillows, decor etc)

Love the art. It introduces color while still coordinating with the softness of the rest of your furnishings. Good job!

Normally art looks best when it covers 2/3 of what it is over, and this covers a lot more, BUT I like this! Hang it only 6 inches above the back of the furniture, too and side by side to keep the look going.

Is your coffee table 18 inches from the couch? I know....numbers and more numbers to be measuring, huh?

I'm not sure the diptych art piece is the way to go...maybe one horizontal framed piece by same artist would be stronger. Meanwhile everything else is looking beautiful and pulled together....sophisticated.

The small round piece by the coffee table....interesting! Is it a footstool? Could it go beside the wall couch, by the fireplace so the coffee table can move closer?

Every room should have F-L-A-I-R. Fresh, Lighting, Artwork, Intrigue, Rug. Add some plants or flowers to the room, the lamp on the end table may be too tall, a grouping of small to medium pictures above the sofa might work, bring in something that makes a statement about who you are - something you bought on a trip or found at flea market, you have the rug but you need a storage ottoman are large coffee table.

You have a great eye. I think as you continue to draw color from picture, the room will get better and better.

Abbyjean that round table is used as both actually. I usually have it set on the side as a table but was using it as a stool when I was watching tv. I probable should have moved it to its place before snapping a pic

As requested here's what one painting looks like.Also, I still prefer something larger as this is literally The OnLy wall i can hang any art pieces. Ideally I would prefer just one large art over the sofa, haven't found the one yet. Do you think framing this canvas would add to the impact or leaving this as is.

Are both of your couches the same size? Just wondering if the floating one is longer and could still fit on that wall and then the two pieces side by side would really be a good fit. One is just too small and I do like them in this room.
