Oh, boy. A library is typically wood so I personally would not paint the wood. That being said, I have no idea what your style is so forgive me for perhaps overstepping.

The wood stain looks like cherry. A green color would be best combination. I am a Ben Moore fan. Check out spa and urban nature.

I would not paint the wood either. If you really want the whole room one color take all the wood out and drywall. Then paint the whole room.

I don't think so, but let's see if we can get a designer to chime in. We have painted that color a few times and it looks great.

BM Phillipsburg blue looks great with panelling. It's a historic color.

Another houzzer painted her library navy blue. It was amazing. I wish I could find a link to that discussion for you! You will need to find a way to incorporate white into the room for it work. :)

personally, although I like blue, I think painting your room that color would be a big mistake. My understanding of home decorating is that the them/color kind of flows from room to room. Your other rooms are pale colors yet you are proposing a very striking blue in the study which will be out of character to the rest of the house.

I feel there is too much wood in your study what with the wooden floor and the wood panelling so I would have a huge rug or carpet the room. I am not a fan of masses of dark wood so unless the room is super bright I might be tempted the paint the wood a pale color.

I think a totally blue from would be gorgeous. I think you need a little more depth to your color though. This one has a tinge of green, which I love. This is one of my favorite pics and I so wish I had a room with tons of wainscoting so I could do this look.

Love the color, but perhaps a touch lighter. Then you will have to to get drapes that stand up to the paint and stain. Lovely dilemma!

Since it appears that's the only room with wood, why not leave it? Or wait until after you paint the walls and see how it looks. I bet once you get furnishings/etc in there, you'll be happy with the warmth.

I agree the wood needs to change colour (it clashes with the floor) but I'd get an expert to do it in a white (you would need to try a few I'd imagine to get the right shade but I love your hallway, not sure what colour that is, but in my opinion I'd use that colour for the wood.

I'd then do a different colour on the window seat wall as already suggested, or even a funky wallpaper (there are so many wallpaper ideas now)

Then I'd go for a blue on the walls, and I'm sure an expert on here will find you the right shade of blue. (The one posted is too dark IMO).

Noooo blue. You would be killing the classic look of the library with that color. Tone it down with a taupe color if you need to paint it

Please don't paint the wood. I think that room is a nice respite from the other pale rooms with all that white trim. I think libraries are where you can go a little more traditional or masculine. Do you already have the rug for the room? If not I think first I would pick out a rug that you both love, and then choose a wall color from the rug. It's much easier than finding a rug to go with a paint color. I agree with above poster who said that you will need to bring in some white from the hallway to make the room not quite so 'different'. Maybe just white lamp shades, white roman shades in the window seat and window seat cushion with some white in the patten would be enough to make the transition without white paint. Just a thought.

Leave the wood alone. The blue color is too intense for that room. I think you would find it overpowering. I wonder what light exposure you receive: north light for example never gets the sun and usually looks best in a warm tone. What mood do you want to create in the room: restful, stimulating? Once you fill the shelves with books the room will take on a different feel and you won't be thinking it's too much wood. Do you like the Ralph Lauren look which is on the masculine side? I picture a room like that as very British. Maybe you could find a piece of artwork first that would suit the room and inspire you for color. I have a small library that faces north. No wood but a big window. It's been many colors. What I selected and love is a Behr paint called Raffia Ribbon. It's rich, warm and restful.

I love Revere Pewter. I have used it in my kitchen and half bath. Get a sample and try it in your library. You may find it too cool because of the warmth of all the wood. Don't paint all that lovely warm wood! It's clear that room was designed to be a library. The warmth and style is conducive to relaxation with a good book in hand and a nice cuppa nearby. You definitely have a color in that room with your beautiful cherry wood cabinets. Pick a neutral...beige or gray, or a complementary to the red, like a green or soft yellow. I usually find a jumping off piece like a pillow picture or drapery fabric and go from there. Good luck with your beautiful room!

Love the blue that a fellow houser posted the link to, but not the one you selected. That looks too romper room. I also agree to not paint the woodwork, others pay an arm and a leg to have it added to theirs!!!!!

If you don't have your rug yet, I saw this one in the grandin road catalog yesterday, and thought of your blue. Maybe you could play off one of these colors. Not knowing your style, it was just a thought.

Consider painting the back of the shelves either the wall color you choose or another pop of color (peacock?).

I think you need to go for it and paint it all. To me the cherry doesn't work with your floors. The blue you have on the wall isn't the right shade. You need to get some samples of several shades up on the walls and pick from there. Here is the SW analysis of the pic I posted a few days ago. The app reads the color differently depending on the shadows and light. It should give you a starting place though. From the app, the blue peacock looks the most promising.

Do not paint the wood. It looks great! The walls of the library painted in Benjamin Moore 'Lafayette Green' would look nice.

I wouldn't worry about the floor. It has different warm tones that do not clash with the cherry.

Go with a navy or dark green on the walls and a nice rug that picks up the wall color. Don't paint the wood - it is perfect for a cosy library. Add a new window seat cushion in a fabric that also picks up new wall color
