The finished fireplace with the painted surround is our neighbor and shows no stones covering the front of the firebox. The stones on their fireplace were also set in by hand. Our unfinished fireplace, (same builder but different sub-contractor) shows stones being kept on the mesh (not set in individually, by hand) and covering the top of the black firebox. We are concerned about future cracking and also about the quality of the job. Advice or comments?
